‘Shift to new MGM campus almost over'
Jamshedpur: The shifting process of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital (MGMMCH) is almost over with the offices of the hospital superintendent, his deputy, and heads of department reporting from the new on-campus building at Dimna on Monday.
The outpatient departments (OPD) of heart, paediatric, burn, eye, skin, ENT, and general medicine have shifted.
"Given that some of the departments are in the process of shifting, the superintendent and I are rotating ourselves, devoting equal time at the old and new buildings so that people don't face problem in approaching us in the event of urgency," said deputy superintendent Nakul Chaudhary.
He further said that in the next week, the gynaecology, orthopaedic, and surgery departments will be shifted to the new building, and subsequent to that, the emergency department will be shifted.
"In about two weeks, all the departments will be shifted to the new building," he said.
The exercise to shift the entire healthcare services departments to the on-campus building witnessed a pace-up following the tragic incident on May 3, in which four people, including three patients, died after the balcony of the medicine block collapsed.
The multi-storey healthcare building is designed to provide consultancy and treatment at 12 departments. The state govt built the 851-bed capacity hospital at a cost of Rs 376 crore.
