Iffco expresses concern over slow adoption of its nano-fertilizers
Nano-technology-based fertilizers which contain plant nutrients in very small particle sizes have witnessed a lower-than-anticipated adoption, according to U.S. Awasthi, managing director, Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd. (Iffco). Iffco launched the world's first 'Nano Liquid Urea' fertilizer in June 2021 and came up with Nano-DAP (di-ammonium phosphate) fertilizers in April 2023. "The adoption of nano fertilizers is lower than anticipated as compared to solid fertilizers," said Awasthi, after announcing the financial results for Iffco. the country's largest agro-fertilizer manufacturer and distributor. He put this down to a lack of awareness of these high-efficiency fertilizers and reluctance among farmers. This is in spite of a significant increase in sales of nano-fertilizers in 2024-25 as compared with a year ago. In the last financial year, Iffco sold 36.50 million bottles of nano-fertilizers, an increase of 47% as over the 24.89 million bottles sold in the previous financial year. Out of 36.50 million bottles, 26.80 million were of Nano Urea Plus (Liquid) and 9.7 million of Nano DAP (Liquid). This is equivalent to 1.2 million tonnes of conventional Urea and 4.85 tonnes of conventional DAP. Considering the total industry volume of 35.80 million tonnes of conventional urea sold last year, the contribution of nano urea is just 3.36%. In case of DAP the contribution of nano-DAP is 5.04% of the total industry volume of 9.62 million tonnes of conventional DAP last year. "In order to increase penetration, we would increase our outreach activities and marketing campaign including social media," added Awasthi. Meanwhile, Iffco booked profit after tax at 2,823 crore in FY25 as compared with ₹ 2,443 crore in FY24. Revenue rose to ₹ 41,244 crore in FY25 fiscal, from ₹ 39,474 crore in the previous year. Commenting upon future plans, Awasthi added,"We will be also launching Nano NPK fertilizer in granular form. Nano NPK fertilizer is enriched with Magnesium, Sulphur, Zinc and Copper which would help in increasing the crop productivity & would minimize nutrient losses." He further said that Iffco will be also launching Nano Zinc and Nano Copper to fulfil micro-nutrients needs of plants. According to him, by incorporating nanotechnology, drones, and artificial intelligence, Iffco is transforming the agriculture & food value chain across the country. Brazil, Kenya and the US have expressed strong interest to adopt the nanotechnology fertilizers, he said. Iffco has expanded its presence in over 40 countries, with reduced rtilizer usage reported from the US\, Brazil, Slovenia, Mauritius, Zambia, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

IFFCO begins commercial production of nano DAP liquid plant in UP's Aonla and Phulpur
New Delhi [India], May 13 (ANI): Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO) on Tuesday commenced commercial production of Nano DAP Liquid at its two additional nano plants in Aonla, in Bareilly district, and Phulpur, in Prayagraj district, both located in Uttar Pradesh. According to IFFCO, each plant has a daily production capacity of 2 lakh bottles per day. The enhanced production will significantly increase the availability of nano DAP liquid across the country, benefiting farmers nationwide. With these two new plants, IFFCO's total capacity for Nano Fertilisers (both Nano Urea and Nano DAP) now stands at 9.5 lakh bottles per day across its five plants. The increased production and availability of Nano DAP Liquid are expected to positively impact agricultural productivity and sustainability, supporting India's farming community. Nano DAP Liquid is a liquid fertiliser containing nitrogen and phosphorus in a nano-sized particle form. It's a significant approach to agriculture, offering benefits like increased nutrient absorption and efficiency, potentially boosting crop yields. The nano urea is a revolution in the agriculture sector, as it has the potential to reduce storage space and money while improving crop yield. A 500 millilitre bottle of IFFCO Nano Urea Liquid can replace at least one bag of conventional Urea. The Nano Urea Liquid is indigenously developed after many years of dedicated and sincere research by IFFCO's Scientists and Engineers. Complaints have been made about the excessive use of urea to increase crop yields, which has been destroying the fertility of agricultural land for a long time. To address this concern, IFFCO has not only prepared nano fertiliser liquid but also patented it. IFFCO management claims that nano fertiliser will increase the fertility of the land and production. It is worth noting that nano urea is not only environmentally friendly but also more profitable than urea. The crop gets 30 per cent profit from urea, while the crop gets 80 per cent profit from nano urea (nano manure). Apart from this, the cost of nano urea is also less than that of urea. Drones can also be used to spray nano fertilisers. In February, US Awasthi, Managing Director and CEO of Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Ltd (IFFCO), said that IFFCO nano urea, nano DAP, and Sagarika are producing great results on American farms. In a post on X, he said that California farmers who have used IFFCO nano fertilisers have seen commendable results in increased yield and quality of Pistachios. IFFCO has consistently innovated to improve fertilisers and has been ranked the number one cooperative among 300 cooperatives in the world. The IFFCO also climbed to 72nd place in the overall turnover ranking from 97th place in the financial year 2023-24. The cooperative society and its 35,500 member cooperative societies, 25,000 PACS, and 52,400 PMKSK centres are progressing towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and Atmanirbhar Krishi. (ANI)

After Just 15-Day Training, The Income Of This 'Drone Didi' Jumped Rs 10,000 A Month
Last Updated: The Drone Didi scheme empowers rural women with drone skills. Sakshi Pandey from Madhya Pradesh has trained over 200 women and now earns Rs 25,000 a month In the heart of rural India, a quiet revolution is taking flight — quite literally. The Drone Didi scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is transforming the lives of women in villages by equipping them with cutting-edge skills in drone technology. At the forefront of this movement is Sakshi Pandey from the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh, whose journey from traditional employment to technological empowerment is inspiring hundreds across the country. For Sakshi, the shift from a conventional private job, which would typically yield a modest income of Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per month, to operating agricultural drones has proven life-changing. Today, she earns up to Rs 25,000 a month while enjoying the independence of working within her community. 'This is more than a job; it's a path to self-reliance and dignity," she says. In 2023, Sakshi underwent an intensive 15-day training course conducted by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), where she learnt to operate drones and apply fertilisers like Nano Urea and Nano DAP. Her dedication and aptitude soon saw her train over 200 women across Gwalior and Mansar in Haryana. In recognition of her achievements, IFFCO awarded her a drone of her own, a powerful tool now central to her work and livelihood. Efficiency Through Technology With drone spraying, what once took hours now takes just five minutes per acre and with 100% fertiliser efficacy. The method not only saves time and labour but also conserves up to 80% of water, marking a significant step forward in sustainable farming practices. Through the IFFCO Udaan app, farmers can now conveniently book Sakshi's services, allowing more efficient and timely fertilisation of their crops. This seamless integration of technology and agriculture is helping bridge the gap between tradition and innovation. Opening Doors For Women Across India The government continues to support this initiative by offering regular training sessions and financial subsidies to women interested in becoming drone operators. The Namo Drone Didi scheme is not merely a technological programme; it is a movement that is uplifting rural women, strengthening communities, and ushering in a new era of agricultural advancement. As women like Sakshi take to the skies with drones, they are not just nurturing crops, they are sowing seeds of hope, independence, and change. First Published:
