3 city students shine in JEE Advanced, secure top 15 All-India Ranks
MUMBAI: Three city students have secured top All India Ranks (AIR) under 15 in the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2025. Parth Vartak (AIR 4), Sahil Deo (AIR 7), and Arnav Nigam (AIR 11), all 17-year-olds, have all opted to pursue Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. Parth Vartak: AIR 4 Parth Vartak attributes his exceptional performance to focused preparation and strategic practice. 'I used to study almost 14 to 15 hours a day. Practising question papers helped me a lot,' said Vartak, a resident of Vile Parle. He completed his Class 10 from Lilavatibai Podar High School and enrolled at Narayana E-Techno School in Marol for junior college. To save precious commuting time during his preparation, his family temporarily shifted closer to the coaching centre. 'Even though Vile Parle and Marol aren't far apart, we moved to optimise my study hours,' said Vartak, whose mother, Mrunal, is a doctor and father, Mandar, an engineer. While thrilled about joining IIT Bombay's CSE programme, Vartak remains open to different career paths. 'Whether I choose research or a corporate job will depend on how my interests evolve during higher studies. Right now, my focus is to perform well at IIT Bombay,' he said. Sahil Deo: AIR 7 For Sahil Deo, consistency and discipline were the cornerstones of success. After moving from Nashik to Mumbai to attend Narayana E-Techno School, Marol, Deo followed a rigorous daily routine—studying from 8 am to 11 pm with just two short breaks. 'I had full faith in my teachers and the weekend tests. They helped me a lot in my success,' said Deo. His father, Mukesh, a mechanical engineer, actively supported his preparations, while his elder brother Vedant, a CSE graduate from IIT Delhi, served as a mentor and motivator. Deo, too, is headed to IIT Bombay for computer science. 'I want to complete my graduation in CSE and build a strong career in the corporate world,' he shared. Arnav Nigam: AIR 11 Approaching the exam with a calm and composed mindset helped Arnav Nigam secure AIR 11. 'Without taking pressure about the score or rank, I appeared for the exam with a natural mindset. That kept me stress-free,' said Nigam, who resides in Goregaon. After completing Class 10 at Vibgyor High School, Nigam pursued his higher secondary education at Chaitanya Academy. His academic prowess extended beyond JEE—he also qualified for several national-level Olympiads, including the Indian National Chemistry Olympiad (INChO), Physics Olympiad (INPhO), Astronomy Olympiad (INAO), and Mathematical Olympiad (INMO). 'These exams helped deepen my conceptual understanding, which was crucial for JEE Advanced,' he explained. His father is an engineer, and his mother holds a PhD in economics—both have been pillars of support in his academic journey. Nigam, too, will join IIT Bombay's CSE programme. Looking ahead, he aspires to specialise in artificial intelligence and machine learning. 'I want to use these advanced skills for the betterment of society,' he said.

JEE Advanced 2025: Mumbai boy secures AIR 4, two from state in top 10
A student from Mumbai and another from Nashik have made it to the top 10 rankings of JEE Advanced 2025, results of which were announced on Monday. Parth Vartak from Mumbai's Vile Parle has secured All India Rank (AIR) 4, while Sahil Deo from Nashik has secured AIR 7. Another Mumbai boy, Arnav Nigam, has secured AIR 11. All three are looking forward to join the coveted Computer Science Engineering (CSE) programme at IIT Bombay. Parth, whose father is an engineer and mother a practicing ayurvedic doctor, said he is passionate about mathematics. 'Solving mathematical puzzles with my father was not just a hobby, it helped me unwind even during intense preparations,' said the 17-year-old Parth, who prepared for the JEE Advanced at Narayana E-Techno School in Marol. The weekly mock-tests at Narayana School, which replicate the JEE-Advanced exam, helped Parth prepare well with smaller goals. 'Every weekend I would get a thorough evaluation of my strengths and weaknesses,' he said. Although their residence in Vile Parle is not far from Marol where Parth's coaching centre is located, the family relocated temporarily to Andheri to cut down on commute time to the coaching centre. Though delighted by Sahil's impressive rank, it wasn't unexpected for the Deo family, which shifted from Nashik to Mumbai just so that Sahil could prepare well for the JEE. Sahil too prepared for the test at Narayana E-Techno School, a coaching centre in Marol. According to Sahil, setting up small goals and working toward achieving them was his strategy for success. 'Every weekly test was a checkpoint. I used the feedback to fine-tune my preparation for the next one,' he said. His elder brother, Vedant — an IIT Delhi graduate in CSE — has been a great support for him. The family shifted to Andheri in Mumbai two years ago to ensure Sahil received the best JEE coaching. 'It was a small move for a big dream,' said his father Mukesh Deo, a mechanical engineer. Sahil, who gave up his FIDE-rated chess pursuits to fully dedicate his time for studies, used to watch science documentaries on YouTube to unwind. A resident of Juhu, Andheri, Arnav's interest in science began early through his participation in the Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik (Junior Scientist) competition during Class 6 and 9. 'Physics and Mathematics became my favourite subjects since then, and that led me to prepare for JEE,' Arnav said. He prepared for the JEE Advanced at Sri Chaitanya Integrated Coaching Centre in Andheri. He too is looking forward to joining CSE at IIT Bombay. According to Arnav, consistency and following guidelines by teachers is key to success. 'After attending classes for nearly seven hours, I made it a point to dedicate time to self-study, which is important for revision,' he said, adding that he stayed away from social media to ensure complete focus on studies. Among candidates who have cleared JEE Advanced, there are a total 11,226 students from IIT Bombay zone, which comprises Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa and Karnataka. Even as the IIT Bombay zone ranks third among a total seven zones in number of qualified candidates, it tops the chart in terms of top 500 candidates with 145 candidates featuring in that bracket.

JEE Advanced 2025: Mumbai's Parth, Sahil top; families relocated to support their preparation
As the JEE Advanced 2025 results were announced on Monday, two students from Maharashtra made it to the list of top 10 All India Rankers. Parth Vartak from Mumbai's Vile Parle secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 4, while Sahil Deo from Nashik is AIR 7 — both now looking forward to joining the coveted Computer Science Engineering (CSE) program at IIT Bombay. Parth, the son of an engineer and a practicing Ayurvedic doctor, has always had a deep-seated love for mathematics. 'Solving math puzzles with my father was more than a hobby — it helped me relax, even during the most intense phases of JEE preparation,' said the 17-year-old, who studied at Narayana E-Techno School in Marol through its integrated JEE coaching program. 'He genuinely enjoyed studying — we never had to remind him, even as a young child,' said his mother, Dr Mrunal Vartak. Although their Vile Parle home is not far from Marol, the Vartak family temporarily relocated to Andheri to minimize Parth's commute to the coaching center. 'Traffic in Mumbai is unpredictable — even a short distance can cost two valuable hours,' Dr Vartak explained, sharing the reason behind their decision to move into a rented apartment closer to the institute. Parth believed that setting goals and taking efforts to meet them is the best way toward success. 'Being passionate about your goal is non-negotiable. If you love the journey, you'll stay focused and keep learning,' he said. The weekly mock-tests at his coaching institute which replicate the JEE-Advanced exam helped Parth to prepare well with smaller goals. 'Every weekend, I would get a thorough evaluation of my strengths and weaknesses,' said Sahil. For Sahil Deo, the road to AIR 7 was paved with strategy, sacrifice, and support. Although delighted by Sahil's impressive rank, it wasn't an unexpected result for the Deo family which shifted city from Nashik to Mumbai just so that Sahil gets good JEE preparation. Sahil was also a student at Narayana E-Techno School in Marol. Originally from Nashik, the Deo family shifted base to Andheri in Mumbai two years ago to ensure Sahil received the best JEE coaching environment. 'It was a small move for a big dream,' said his father, Mukesh Deo, a mechanical engineer, reasoning the family's move to ensure that Sahil does not feel alone while preparing for JEE. 'He was very much focused when it came to studies and we were sure that he would get a good score,' said the father. His elder brother, Vedant — an IIT Delhi graduate in CSE — has been a support for him throughout the rigorous and extensive training for JEE for the past two years. According to Sahil, setting up small goals and working toward achieving them was his strategy for success. 'Every weekly test was a checkpoint. I used the feedback to fine-tune my preparation for the next one,' said Sahil, who gave up his FIDE-rated chess pursuits to fully dedicate time and energy on the JEE goal. To unwind, he would turn to reading and watching science documentaries on YouTube.
