CM Fadnavis okays expansion of Shirdi Airport, directs plan for Amravati Airport runway expansion

Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) In the backdrop of the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday approved the expansion of Shirdi Airport with construction of two helipads and eight parking lots and its modernisation. He also asked for a plan to be submitted for the expansion of the runway at Amravati Airport. This was decided during a meeting of the Chief Minister with the Maharashtra Airports Authority. The 91st meeting of the Board of Directors of Maharashtra Airport Authority was held in the auditorium of Sahyadri Guest House. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was present on this occasion. Swati Pandey, Vice President and Managing Director of the Authority, gave information through a presentation. Since the industrial network in Amaravati is expanding to a large extent, it is necessary to expand the runway of this place. A plan should be prepared to generate revenue from this airport, said Fadnavis. The Chief Minister mentioned on this occasion that, the work on the cargo terminal of the airport in Shirdi is going on at a fast pace. Since Shirdi airport is close to Nashik, Shirdi airport will be convenient for devotees coming by air during the Nashik Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela. Considering the possible congestion at that time and considering the capacity of the airport in Nashik, the proposal for expansion of Shirdi airport was approved on this occasion. This includes eight parking lots, two helipads and updating of the terminal. This will benefit the aircraft and helicopter services coming during the Kumbh Mela. Latur district is undergoing major development and expansion in all areas. Therefore, Latur airport will be important. For this, this airport should be developed. This airport will also benefit Beed and Dharashiv districts along with Latur. Chief Minister Fadnavis also directed to start the work of an airport at Karad at the earliest and create a night landing facility there. The runway at the airport at Chandrapur should be extended to create a facility where chartered aircraft can land. He also instructed to consider two to three alternative sites for the airport at Gadchiroli. The work of the airports at Ratnagiri, Akola, Kolhapur, Nanded, Dhule was also reviewed on this occasion. It was informed that currently, air services are operating on 16 routes in the state under the Regional Connectivity Scheme and eight proposals from the state have been sent to the Centre under the flight scheme, added Fadnavis.
