Chris O'Donnell Reveals Nixed Plan to Rescue NCIS: LA's Hetty, Previews His 9-1-1: Nashville Spinoff Role — WATCH

Though he has been busy booking and prepping for a lead role in ABC's Nashville-set 9-1-1 spinoff, Chris O'Donnell has gotten wind of the recent developments in his NCIS: Los Angeles character's life. TVLine spoke with O'Donnell on the blue carpet at Disney's recent Upfront presentation, and at the 1:30 mark in the video above, I ask if he had heard that NCIS: LA's Callen is now expecting a baby with wife Anna. John Oliver Urges ABC to Keep Doctor Odyssey, Mocks 'Premise-Defying' Season 8 Renewal for The Rookie Grey's Anatomy's Hot New Doc: Did Your First Impression Leave You Wanting Seconds? O'Donnell shares his reaction to the news of G's growing family, after which we talk about the other update we got via LL Cool J's recent NCIS visit — about Office of Special Projects boss Hetty Lange, who was MIA for much of the CBS series' final season and, per Sam Hanna, last was spotted on the wrong side of a DMZ. When I inform O'Donnell about NCIS: LA fans' desire for proper closure on the Hetty front, he lets loose about a TV-movie idea that he and others pitched at the time of the dual Hollywood strikes that came not long after the high-octane series' May 2023 finale. What brought O'Donnell to the Disney Upfront was his role in ABC's 9-1-1: Nashville, airing Thursdays at 9/8c this fall, and in which he plays Don Sharpe, 'a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville's busiest firehouse with his beloved son' (according to the official character breakdown). 'Don's a devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets.' At the top of the video above, O'Donnell shares the little he knows about thus far about Don — 9-1-1: Nashville doesn't start filming until June — but he does note some differences from NCIS: LA's Callen. In a separate video, below, glowing Grey's Anatomy alum Jessica Capshaw previews her own 9-1-1: Nashville role, as O'Donnell's TV wife Blythe, and whether she is up for some crooning and/or a little two-step once the series debuts this fall.
