'Yes, I want to get back in the T20 team and the World Cup is in my mind': KL Rahul sends a message to selectors
KL Rahul has revealed he wants to return to India's T20I team and is targeting the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Delhi Capitals star spoke about his goals and improved T20 game in an interview with Nasser Hussain. read more KL Rahul has made it clear that he is eyeing a comeback to India's T20 team and is also targeting the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup. The star batter, who was in great form during the IPL 2025 season, spoke openly about his goals during an interview with former England captain Nasser Hussain on Sky Sports. Rahul last played a T20 match for India in the 2022 T20 World Cup semifinal, where India lost badly to England by 10 wickets. After that, he has only played in Test and ODI formats for India under Rohit Sharma's captaincy. Rohit took a more aggressive approach in the 2024 T20 World Cup, and maybe that is why he didn't feel the need for someone like Rahul, who played like an anchor. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD India already had Virat Kohli in the team to play that anchor's role when needed. Kohli took Rahul's opening spot in the 2024 T20 World Cup and went on to win the tournament. After Rohit and Kohli retired, India moved on to younger players to fill the gap. But Rahul has worked on his T20 game and improved his strike rate. He even spoke about this in his interview with Nasser Hussain and said that he is hoping to make a comeback to the Indian T20I team. Here's what Rahul said about his desire 'Yes, I want to get back in the T20 team and the World Cup is in my mind, but for now it's just trying to enjoy how I'm playing right now,' Rahul said. 'I obviously had some time to think about my white-ball game and white-ball cricket; I was quite happy with my performances and where I was. But [there] was a time probably 15 months ago or 12 months ago where I realised that the game is slightly getting ahead or it's changing and becoming much more faster, and I said this in an interview as well, that it's become more about the team that hits more boundaries is winning the games more often than the team that's, I can't say playing smarter, but the team that doesn't hit as many boundaries is always finding themselves on the losing side,' he added Rahul, who played for Delhi Capitals this season, was their highest run-scorer and looked confident throughout the tournament. He scored 539 runs from 13 innings at an average of 53.90 and a strike rate of 149.72. The 33-year-old hit one century and three half-centuries in the season.

'I think he is a good choice': Ex-England skippers Nasser Hussain, Eoin Morgan on Shubman Gill becoming Test captain
Former England captains Nasser Hussain and Eoin Morgan have backed Shubman Gill as India's new Test captain. Both said that it's a smart long-term move after the retirement of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin. read more of India by the BCCI and the decision has received a big thumbs-up from former England captains Nasser Hussain and Eoin Morgan. Both legends praised the move and said Gill is ready to lead the team into a new era after the retirement of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. Nasser Hussain calls Shubman a high-class player Speaking to Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain said, 'Nine months ago, if you put on a probable squad for India, you would probably have Ravi Ashwin in there, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma — three of the greats of Indian cricket. Well, they have all retired. With Rohit retiring, you need a new captain. Shubman gets that role, a great honour for him to be captain of India.' Hussain explained that Jasprit Bumrah could have been a captain too, but India is clearly looking at the long term. 'Jasprit Bumrah was vice-captain, has captained in the past, but obviously, with them saying that he may not play all five Test matches and his injury record, they are looking long-term — someone who can play for a very long time — and they feel Shubman Gill is that man. He is a high-class player, but his record away from home is not as good as at home. He has captained well recently in the IPL. I think he is a good choice.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'But, as I said at the start, there are names missing there, and I think for that reason it's a very good opportunity for England. But make no mistake, that is a strong squad, and whoever you bring in — Karun Nair, for example — hasn't played Test match cricket for 8 years. Last time England saw him, he got a triple hundred against them, and he has been prolific in first-class cricket,' Hussain concluded. Eoin Morgan backs Shubman Gill as captain Eoin Morgan, who captained Gill in the IPL, echoed Hussain's thoughts. 'Some obvious names are missing – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin. But it's still a very strong squad. I think the captaincy decision is the right one. I played alongside Shubman Gill at Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL a few years ago. He's a natural leader. He takes on responsibility within a group and doesn't mind questioning methodology within the camp. But ultimately, he keeps the collective goal in focus.' 'I would, without a doubt and without a ball being bowled, make England the favourites. I haven't looked at any of the betting markets, but based on home form and the journey this England Test team is on, I'd say things are currently in their favour. It's a good position to be in. I've played in some really poor teams where we were never the favourites. So yes, you'd rather be the favourites. But it's definitely going to be a tough tour for India,' he added.

England enter huge era in good health and looking to reconnect with fans
What a curious relationship English cricket has had with Zimbabwe. It is a country that has provided England with two fine batsmen — Gary Ballance and Graeme Hick; two exceptional coaches — Duncan Fletcher and Andy Flower; and gave one England captain, Nasser Hussain, the most anxious moments of his career in the World Cup of 2003, the year since which the two countries have been estranged from each other in Test cricket, a gap of 22 years. You have to go back to Jimmy Anderson's debut series, and an England team that included the managing director, Rob Key, and other leading present coaching lights of the county game, Richard Johnson and Anthony McGrath, for when Zimbabwe last played Test cricket here.
