Arizona State fires women's basketball coach Natasha Adair after 3 seasons

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona State fired women's basketball coach Natasha Adair on Saturday after three seasons of not making the NCAA Tournament. 'We appreciate coach Natasha Adair's leadership and professionalism in guiding Sun Devil women's basketball over the past three seasons," Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini said in a statement. "She and her staff built meaningful connections throughout the Valley, and we respect how she represented ASU during her time in Tempe. A national search for the next leader of our program will begin immediately.' Adair was hired in 2022 to replace the retiring Charlie Turner Thorne after spending the previous five seasons at Delaware. Arizona State struggled to gain traction under Adai, finishing 8-20 in her first season. The Sun Devils won 11 games last season and went 10-22 this season, including a 3-15 first run through the Big 12 Conference. Adair went 29-62 overall and 7-47 in conference play after losing to Iowa State in the second round on the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday. ___ AP women's college basketball: and The Associated Press

ASU fires women's basketball coach Natasha Adair after 3 seasons

Arizona State fired women's basketball coach Natasha Adair, the school announced Saturday morning, following a 10-22 record during the 2024-25 season, including a 3-15 mark in Big 12 Conference play. The Sun Devils concluded the season -- their first in the Big 12 -- Thursday with a 96-88 loss to Iowa State in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament after a first-round win over Cincinnati. Adair had a tough act to follow after Charli Turner Thorne retired after becoming the winningest coach in ASU history in her 25 seasons in Tempe. Taking over the program on March 28, 2022, Adair was 29-62 (.319) overall and 7-47 (.129) in conference play (Pac 12 and Big 12 combined). Adair's first two seasons were plagued by injury. In 2023, ASU had to forfeit two games because there were only five available players. The Sun Devils were without leading scorer Tyi Skinner for the entire 2023-24 season because of an ACL injury. The ASU men's basketball team was scheduled to conclude its Big 12 schedule Saturday night in Tempe against Texas Tech. ASU athletics director Graham Rossini thanked Adair in a university statement and said the school would "begin immediately" a national search for Adair's successor. "We appreciate Coach Natasha Adair's leadership and professionalism in guiding Sun Devil Women's Basketball over the past three seasons," the statement read. "She and her staff built meaningful connections throughout the Valley, and we respect how she represented ASU during her time in Tempe. A national search for the next leader of our program will begin immediately." One bright spot for ASU this season was that it established a school record for free throw shooting, hitting .758 from the line to break the top mark of .751, set in 2006-07. Arizona State women's basketball fires Natasha Adair after 3 seasons: Sources

Arizona State has fired Natasha Adair after three seasons with the Sun Devils, a source with knowledge of the move told The Athletic on Saturday. The Sun Devils missed the postseason in each season under Adair, finishing in last and second-to-last in the Pac-12 during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. This past year, after the program had moved into the Big 12, ASU went 3-15, finishing second-to-last and losing to Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament. The Arizona State job is the second to open in the Big 12 (behind Houston, which fired Ronald Hughey last week) and the fourth power conference job to open. Both Mizzou and Auburn parted ways with their head coaches last week. This story will be updated
