Hamilton Center officials discuss importance of Problem Gambling Awareness Month
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The month of March is Problem Gambling Awareness Month.
The Chief of Crisis Diversion at Hamilton Center Natasha Newcomb said there has been a steady increase in gambling addiction since the legalization of sports gambling in majority of states. She said that gambling addiction can lead to financial stress, relationship and family breakdowns, and suicidal thoughts.
Newcomb said this issue has been overlooked for years and she is glad it is getting the attention and awareness it needs.

'For a long time, I think gambling was something that was overlooked in society as not a lot of attention has been paid to it historically,' said Newcomb. 'We are now starting to see an increase in awareness, and we are happy to be a part of that.'
