Veterans, officials attend Memorial Day ceremony at National Veterans Museum

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — On Memorial Day, the National Veterans Memorial Museum held a ceremony to honor those who lost their lives, celebrating the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice of serving our country. The ceremony was filled with people from the community as well as veterans from all branches of the military. Monday's event also had a wreath laying and a moment when dozens of veterans in attendance stood up and said the names of people who they lost, saying they will never forget them. 'So, it gives me time to reflect, remember them, celebrate their lives, honor their service, their sacrifice, and say their names.' Keynote speaker Nate Boyer noted the importance of remembering our veterans not just for how they died, but how they lived, and he hopes this event will inspire people to find more ways to honor veterans for years to come. 'To be here on Memorial Day, to look right behind us out this window, and see the flag at half-mast and all the flags that have been planted on the grounds, and have the opportunity to go down to the reflective pool and reflect on those that have made the ultimate sacrifice It's just, it's very special,' Boyer said. Many Columbus officials were also in attendance including city attorney Zach Klein and council member Nancy Day-Achauer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
