And then there was one — Abbotsford Canucks playoff series headed to deciding game

The Abbotsford Canucks ' season is on the line Monday afternoon. The Vancouver Canucks ' farmhands will play the Colorado Eagles in Loveland, Colo., in the deciding game of the best-of-five AHL Pacific Division final after the Eagles beat visiting Abbotsford 3-1 on Friday to knot the series at 2-2. Monday's opening faceoff at Blue Arena is 2:05 p.m. The Eagles are the Colorado Avalanche's farm team. They have home ice advantage since they won the Pacific Division regular season banner, with the Eagles (43-21-5-3) finishing two points ahead of runner-up Abbotsford (44-24-2-2). The Canucks did capture the season series between the teams, though, going 6-2-0-0 against the Eagles. The Abbotsford Canucks fell 3-1 to the Colorado Eagles in Game 4, pushing the series to Game 5. Read all about it in the post game recap. FULL RECAP | Colorado (26-6-2-2) had the league's best home record in the regular season. Abbotsford (20-13-2-1) sported the ninth best away record. They went 2-2-0-0 in their regular season trips to Loveland, and they won Game 3 of this series there on Wednesday via a 3-2 overtime decision, with the winner coming the off stick of winger Linus Karlsson. Karlsson is second in Abbotsford scoring in the post-season, with his eight points, including five goals. That leaves him behind only the 11 points put forth by winger Sammy Blais. Blais has tallied three times. Centre Nate Smith bagged his third goal of the playoffs on Friday for Vancouver, scoring in the third period after Colorado had got out to a 3-0 lead on goals by winger Jean-Luc Foudy, centre Jayson Megna and winger Tye Felhaber. Megna is a former Vancouver Canuck. Felhaber's goal came on a power play, marking the first man-advantage goal that Abbotsford has allowed in these playoffs. The Abbotsford penalty kill is working at 97 per cent (32-of-33) in the post-season. Nate Smith gets the Canucks on the board, cutting the deficit to two goals. Arturs Silovs' saves prove huge. Will it be enough? Artūrs Šilovs made 27 saves in the Abbotsford net Friday. Trent Miner turned away 24 shots for Colorado. Miner is a former Vancouver Giants netminder. There are two more rounds left in the AHL playoffs after this one. The winner between Abbotsford and Colorado moves onto the Western Conference finals, where they'll face either the Milwaukee Admirals or the Texas Stars. Milwaukee, who are a Nashville Predators farm team, and Texas, who are a Dallas Stars affiliate, are knotted at 2-2 and play their deciding game on Sunday. The Charlotte Checkers have already advanced to the Eastern Conference final, thanks to sweeping the Hershey Bears. They're awaiting either the Laval Rocket or Rochester Americans, who play their fifth and deciding game on Sunday as well. The Eastern and Western champions then square off for the Calder Cup. Hershey were the two-time reigning league champions. Charlotte and Hershey are the farm teams for the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals, respectively. It's the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres for Laval and Rochester. @SteveEwen SEwen@

It's Sacramento's country music festival of the year, especially considering Golden Sky is being held until next year. Thousands of people are expected to attend this weekend. Hosted by KNCI, big-name artists are playing like Billy Currington and Nate Smith. Friday's headliner is Bailey Zimmerman. Two friends, Ayden Sparks and Alisia Evans, drove all the way up from Southern California to see Bailey Zimmerman. "That man has saved my life," Sparks said. "It's a really good break just to come out here and see everybody in their hats and cowboy boots. It's just a great environment," Evans said. Friday marked Ashley Pinnick's first concert ever. "I like a lot of the artists singing today, so I'm very excited," she said. With temperatures in the 80s, festival goers were doing what they could to stay cool, at least until the sun went down. "It is hot, but I have a fan with me," said Dixon resident Gladys Herrejon. There's more than just music. People can enjoy great food, shop at local vendors and participate in good old-fashioned country activities. "I'm going to try and ride the bull this time. I'm a little scared, but I'm going to try," said Vacaville resident Abbie Menesini. And sometimes, it's just all about the vibe. "Over the last three year,s it's been really fun even though country music isn't really my favorite. I love coming, it's really fun," said Menesini.

Nate Smith Was Eating and Drinking Too Much. Then, He Made a Major Change: 'I Was Killing Myself' (Exclusive)

Musician Nate Smith says he knew he needed to cut back on alcohol and switch to a healthier diet after he "got pretty heavy" in recent years By partying less and making small tweaks to his diet — like eating more protein and changing his coffee order — Smith tells PEOPLE he has since lost 55 lbs. Smith says he hopes to lose more, but is "way happier" now and feels better than he used toNate Smith knew he had a weight problem. 'I feel like the last few years I got pretty heavy,' Smith, 39, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview from his home outside of Nashville. 'Every day, I would look in the mirror and I just felt bad about myself. I just was so depressed, and literally, I didn't like the way I looked. I didn't like the way my clothes fit. It's something I've been sad about for a long time.' Smith also knew that there was a time when he was drinking far too much. 'Last year and the year before were a blur,' admits Smith, who burst on the country music scene back in 2022 with his number one hit 'Whiskey on You.' He says, 'I was drunk so often at shows. I was trying to find an escape, and literally that was my thing. It was the funnest time of my life, but I didn't realize I was killing myself. You can't party every day. It has to be a treat, especially if you want to be here for the long haul.' But last fall, fate seemed to step in at just the right moment, when the country music hitmaker was diagnosed with a respiratory infection that had him paying attention to his health for the first time in a long time. 'I was eating healthy for two days and I thought we might as well just do it now,' he recalls of the beginnings of his weight loss journey. 'I was kind of over it.' So, at the urging of his brother, Smith began a high protein diet and started counting calories. 'But I was still struggling,' remembers Smith, whose current single is the top 20 flamethrower 'Fix What You Didn't Break.' 'I mean, I like white mochas in the morning at Starbucks," he says with a laugh. "But I started just reducing the pumps of the mocha. And then eventually I did sugar-free vanilla. Now I do sugar-free vanilla and a half and half in my coffee, and I don't even think about it. Smith says he's "not dieting" — instead, he's "just making little changes.' And those little changes have resulted in a 55-pound weight loss so far for the 'World on Fire' hitmaker. 'I feel like a whole new person,' exclaims Smith, who will head out this summer with fellow country music powerhouse Jason Aldean on his Full Throttle Tour. Certainly, Smith admits that weight battles have long run in the family. But in recent years, they all have begun to fight back. 'My mom sort of led the charge, since she's been doing aerobics for years,' Smith recalls. 'And then my brother [social media influencer Kyle Smith, otherwise known as Tasty Shreds] went high protein and low calorie and lost 80 pounds.' And while Smith says he still wants to lose more weight, some things will never change. 'I hate working out more than anything in the world,' he laughs. 'I don't run. I just can't relate to someone who says they love to run.' Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. But all jokes aside, the battle is still very real for the musician. 'I still struggle with some binge eating,' says Smith, quick to point to a dirty macaroni and cheese pot in his sink from the night before. 'And if I want to have it, I'm going to have it. But I want to find a way to make it a treat versus a lifestyle thing. If I decide I'm going to have mac and cheese, it's OK.' 'I'm not even close to my goal,' Smith continues, 'but I'm way happier where I'm at, and I feel like better about the way I look.' Read the original article on People
