Rangers Make Big Nathan Eovaldi Announcement After Injury News

Rangers Make Big Nathan Eovaldi Announcement After Injury News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Throughout the 2025 season, the Texas Rangers haven't been all too impressive, as they sport a 29-31 record, putting them in third place in the AL West, while having just a plus-three run differential. Advertisement Things have the opportunity to get worse, too, because on Sunday, the team revealed that starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi would be hitting the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 29) due to right triceps fatigue. What makes this loss even worse is that on Monday, the team announced Eovaldi has been named the Rangers Player of the Month for May, a distinction voted on by media members and broadcasters who cover the team. It's a well-deserved honor, too, because through the entire month, he started five games, accumulating 26.2 innings, 27 strikeouts, an opponent batting average of .168, a 0.68 ERA and a 0.86 WHIP. Advertisement Throughout the entire season, he has been extremely dominant, tied for the 24th-most innings pitched (69.1), the second-best ERA (1.56), tied for 16th in strikeouts (73), tied for the fifth-highest WAR (2.2), and has the second-lowest opponent batting average (.183) among qualified starting pitchers. Other than now dealing with an injury, Eovaldi has been exactly what the Rangers could have hoped for after signing him to a three-year, $75 million contract before the season started. Advertisement If Eovaldi were able to pull that off, it would be a huge boost to his career, considering that he's only made two All-Star appearances and been inside the top four for Cy Young voting once in his first 13 seasons at the MLB level. Benched Rangers OF Adolis Garcia working on mechanics

June 2 - Slumping Texas Rangers slugger Adolis Garcia was out of the starting lineup for the third straight day Sunday when the Rangers closed a series against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Garcia has been struggling all season and went 5-for-41 (.122) with 18 strikeouts over his past 10 appearances. He posted one homer and three RBIs during the stretch. The Rangers have requested that Garcia work on his mechanics in hopes he can rediscover his 2023 form, when he established career highs of 39 homers and 107 RBIs. Garcia was an All-Star for the second time that season and also smacked eight homers in the postseason as Texas won the World Series. "We need him to kind of commit to some of these changes that we think will get him back to the '23 version of himself and help him be the player that we know he can be," Texas general manager Chris Young said before the Sunday contest against St. Louis. Garcia is batting just .208 and slugging .371 with seven homers and 27 RBIs in 56 games this season. Garcia acknowledged that the break could be beneficial. "It's about the mental reset and coming back with more energy," García said. "I'm working on some stuff without the pressure of having to do something up there." Garcia, 32, has been a staple in the Texas lineup since the start of the 2021 season. He has 129 homers, 410 RBIs and a .237 average in 687 games with the Rangers. Texas also placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list. The move is retroactive to Thursday. Eovaldi, 35, exited Tuesday's start against the Toronto Blue Jays after two innings due to right triceps soreness. "With the flexibility in the rotation, we felt like this is the appropriate thing to make sure that we get him right," Young said. "Structurally, everything looks really good. We took a picture. Everything looks really good. We just gotta get this triceps thing calmed down. We anticipate that he'll be ready at the end of the 15-day mark." The loss of Eovaldi rates as a big blow. He entered Sunday's play ranked second in the majors with a 1.56 ERA and is 4-3 with 73 strikeouts in 69 1/3 innings over 12 starts. Texas recalled right-hander reliever Codi Heuer from Triple-A Round Rock to fill Eovaldi's spot on the active roster. To make room for Heuer on their 40-man roster, the Rangers designated catcher Tucker Barnhart for assignment. Barnhart, 34, was 3-for-13 (.231) in eight appearances for Texas. The 28-year-old Heuer is 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 19 appearances at Round Rock. --Field Level Media

Rangers offense continues to struggle at the same time their pitching has been so good

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have done a lot to try and solve the offensive woes that have plagued them all season, from firing their offensive coordinator to manager Bruce Bochy tinkering with the lineup. Texas went into its day off Thursday at the bottom of the American League with a .219 batting average and 185 runs scored. 'Really they just need to get away. You know, it's been a little bit of a tough grind here lately,' Bochy said. ''And so hopefully, they freshen up, clear their heads and come back and be the offense that we keep saying that they're gonna be.' The Rangers (27-30) just played 35 games in 37 days, going 14-21 and falling from the AL West lead to 4 1/2 games back. They scored two runs or fewer in 19 of those games, including this week against Toronto when both teams combined for seven total runs in a three-game series. Meanwhile, the Texas pitching staff has been one of the best in the majors with its 3.19 ERA ranking third. Nathan Eovaldi (1.56 ERA) was third among individual pitchers, just ahead of Tyler Mahle at 1.64. Two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom had a 2.42 ERA that ranked 12th. After throwing six scoreless innings Wednesday against the Blue Jays, Mahle was asked how the pitchers handle things and stay competitive amid the offensive struggles. 'Kind of separate yourself from it. ... Hitting's the hardest thing to do in probably all of sports, right? So I mean I don't know anything about hitting,' Mahle said. 'We just try to keep the team in the game and they're gonna turn around. I think all of us know that. I know we keep saying that, but it's gonna happen. These guys are way too good. ... We're just waiting for it to happen. And then when it does, we are going to be really, really good.' Offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker was fired May 4, after Texas scored 30 runs in a 2-9 stretch when half those runs came with a season-high 15 runs in a win against the Athletics. Ecker was in his fourth season with the Rangers, and helped them win their only World Series title in 2023. Former big league All-Star infielder Bret Boone, the 56-year-old older brother of New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone, was hired to work with hitting coach Justin Viele and assistant hitting coach Seth Conner, who remained on Bochy's staff. Marcus Semien, so long a staple leading off for Bochy, is now near the bottom of the order and last among AL qualifiers with a .173 average. Slugger Adolis García is 11 for 71 with 25 strikeouts over the past 20 games and is hitting .208 overall. Josh Smith, who took over in the leadoff spot, was in a 4-for-39 slide before having their only hit and two walks Wednesday, when they were shut out for the seventh time. Joc Pederson and Jake Burger were their primary offseason acquisitions. Burger was went down to Triple-A earlier this month and is 3 for 27 his last eight games games. Pederson hit .131 in 46 games before a broken hand last week, and was as low as .052 during an 0-for-41 drought that was the franchise's longest hitless stretch since at least 1974. Two-time World Series MVP shortstop Corey Seager missed 28 games and had two stints on the injured list because of a right hamstring strain before returning for the finale against the Blue Jays. Evan Carter has been out since May 17 because of a right quad strain, but could rehab and return to the big league lineup next week. 'Well, I'm not gonna stop believing, I mean we have a lot of baseball left. That's the worst thing you can do,' Bochy said. 'I think that's important for them, and this is a tough part of the game you have to deal with when you go through something like this. And we're men and we've got to handle it in the right way.' ___ AP MLB:

Yankees Could Add $75 Million MLB Pitching Leader With 3-Player Trade Package

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees have seemingly solved their biggest roster concern going into this season. After losing Gerrit Cole for the year and Luis Gil for several months before opening day, the Yankees seemed headed for some significant struggles in the rotation. Instead, Max Fried, Carlos Rodon, Will Warren and Ryan Yarbrough have been pitching well and the rotation is much deeper and more effective than expected. However, as the saying goes, you can never have too much pitching when the goal is a World Series championship. "Still, Rodon and Fried could really use a right-handed co-ace, and that's what the trade deadline is for," Adam Weinrib wrote for FanSided. "As if the Yankees' ideal target wasn't already obvious ... Nathan Eovaldi emphatically rubber-stamped himself as the man for the job, zipping his trademark heaters and all but begging for an overdue Yankees reunion." (Photo by) More Dean/Getty Eovaldi, who pitched for the Yankees in 2015, 2016 and 2018, agreed to return to the Rangers on a three-year, $75 million deal this past winter. So far, he has looked as good as ever, maintaining a 1.60 ERA and a Major League Baseball leading 0.787 WHIP in his first 11 starts. And while that performance will certainly intrigue the Yankees, there could be a couple of obstacles in acquiring Eovaldi. For one, it isn't clear if the Rangers will really be in a position to sell at the trade deadline. As of this writing, the team sits in third place in the American League West. Secondly, the Rangers have a lot of prospect depth at pitcher and it's hard to say what the Yankees might be able to offer them in a trade for Eovaldi. Weinrib predicted that a three-player package including some of the Yankees' top prospects could get a deal done. "Eovaldi is signed at $25 million for each of the next two years, so while the Yankees would be relieving a financial burden, the Rangers' ask won't be flimsy here," Weinrib added. "Would Spencer Jones, Everseon Pereira and a lefty be enough?" Jones, once an untouchable prospect in the system, appears to be more expendable now. And if the Yankees were able to add one of the most effective pitchers in all of baseball just ahead of another World Series run, this seems like the kind of deal they'd try to pull off. Rangers shut out Jays despite Nathan Eovaldi's early exit

May 28 - Josh Jung singled home the deciding run with two outs in the eighth inning as the Texas Rangers did just enough to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 on Tuesday in in Arlington, Texas. Six Rangers pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout despite starter Nathan Eovaldi leaving after two innings with what the term termed as right triceps fatigue. Jung's game-winning hit was delivered off Blue Jays reliever Chad Green (1-1) and came after Kyle Higashioka began the surge with a one-out single. Pinch runner Sam Haggerty took over for Higashioka and stole second. After a groundout and an intentional walk to Wyatt Langford, Jung punched his hit to center field. The Rangers got am insurance run immediately after when Toronto catcher Alejandro Kirk airmailed a pickoff throw toward third base, allowing Langford to trot home. Robert Garcia struck out two in the ninth to earn his third save of the year as Texas bounced back from a 2-1 loss in the opener of the three-game series on Monday. The Rangers have won two of their past three games after losing a season-worst six in a row. Texas outhit the Blue Jays 6-4. Toronto has scored a combined four runs in its past five games, losing four of those contests. Eovaldi left after 39 pitches, having allowed two hits and a walk while striking out two. He is not expected to miss his next scheduled start, according to the Rangers. Eovaldi was followed to the mound by Jacob Latz (two hits, two walks and four strikeouts in three-plus innings), Shawn Armstrong (two walks in 1 2/3 innings), Hoby Milner (one-third of an inning) and Luke Jackson (1-4), who allowed a walk in his one-inning appearance. Toronto starter Bowden Francis pitched five-plus innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out six. The Blue Jays went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11. --Field Level Media
