New Mural coming to Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Soon, drivers along Wesley parkway will have a new mural to look at.
The mural is being painted on the northside of the building at 712 Market Street just off West 7th.
The project is a partnership between the Gilchrist Foundation, who is funding the project, Nathan and Rachel Phillips, who own the building and the city of Sioux City.
Des Moines artist Jill Wells has been commissioned to paint the mural. The mural will focus on music and the importance of volunteering in the community.
'The mural talks about the spirit of the jazz culture within Sioux City and really brings that to life as a unifying force. Specifically, within the Black, Asian and Jewish communities and looks at particularly the history of jazz along west 7th street as a cultural hub for the city of Sioux city,' said Wells.
This will be the 4th in a series of murals installed throughout the West 7th Street area. Wells started painting the mural Saturday and it's expected to be done by July 1st.
