Cartoon Jesus to hit theaters: Will moviegoers pay?

Faith is an integral part of millions of Americans' daily lives. (NewsNation) — Angel Studios is coming out with a new movie, just in time for Easter. After shattering box office expectations with their sleeper hit 'Sound of Freedom,' despite some controversy, the startup studio is hoping for another hit. This time around, the movie's director brings a new perspective to a story that goes back 2,000 years: the life of Christ. Pope makes surprise appearance at St. Peter's Square, 2 weeks after leaving hospital 'The King of Kings' is an animated feature film directed by Seong-Ho Jang, of South Korea, a veteran in the film industry in Asia. It's the story of Jesus as told by Charles Dickens, one of English Literature's greatest storytellers, to his son Walter. The animated film, which is being released on April 11 in nearly 50 countries around the world, boasts a star-studded cast: Kenneth Branaugh (Charles Dickens); Uma Thurman (Catherine Dickens); Pierce Brosnan (Pontius Pilate); Mark Hamill (King Herod); Ben Kingsley (Caiaphus) and Forest Whitaker (Peter). It may surprise fans of Dickens that the Victorian author, who penned classics such as 'A Christmas Carol,' 'David Copperfield' and 'Great Expectations,' wrote a book about the life of Jesus for his young children. In fact, he never intended it to be read by the public. But it was published in 1934, 64 years after his death. Disgraced former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick has died at age 94 After reading the book, the film's director decided he had to make it into a movie. 'As a Christian myself, I always wanted to tell the story of Jesus to other people,' Jang told NewsNation. 'And as a fan of Charles Dickens, I read all of his books, but it is only recently that I found out that there is a book he wrote called 'The Life of Our Lord,' so after reading it I thought it would be a very interesting and unique if I was to tell the story of Jesus from the perspective of Charles Dickens.' Jang turned to Angel Studios in the United States with their recent success delivering faith-based content to audiences through a community-driven, crowd-funding business model. In 2023, their indie film 'Sound of Freedom' shook up Hollywood, grossing over $14 million in its opening weekend. South Korea, where Jang has made hundreds of movies, has the largest Christian population in Asia, but is still a tough environment for Christians, at times, and faith-based content. 'There are a lot of people who are opposed to the Christian populations,' he said. Report: 1 in 5 Catholics in US affected by deportations Jang hopes the film will reach not just Christians, but non-Christians as well. Since he confesses to being an introvert, he says he hopes the film can share the story of Jesus, even in places where religion is banned, such as North Korea. 'There is no possibility for the film to be released in North Korea. I know that, but I wish that someday it can be released in North Korea so people there can know the message of Jesus,' he said. NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore says faith got him through time in space According to the Detroit Free Press, Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib and Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi who endorsed Trump and were chosen by him to be ambassadors to Kuwait and Tunisia, were in attendance along with evangelical leader and Trump adviser Paula White, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. Eid al-Fitr is the festival that marks the end of the holy month of fasting, prayer and reflection. In the 2024 election, Muslims shifted away from backing Democratic candidates for the first time in two decades. A Council on American-Islamic Relations survey of 1,575 Muslim voters found that Kamala Harris captured only 20 percent of the Muslim vote after overwhelmingly supporting Joe Biden in 2020. In Dearborn, Michigan, home to the largest Muslim population in the country, Trump won nearly 47% of the votes, according to the city. ''We're keeping our promises to the Muslim community. My administration is engaged in relentless diplomacy to forge lasting peace in the Middle East, building on the historic Abraham Accords,' President Trump said at the dinner. Former VP candidate Nicole Shanahan gets baptized

Faith is an integral part of millions of Americans' daily lives. 'One Nation Under God' is committed to reflecting America's voices, values and communities covering stories of faith and religion, from the latest headlines to stories of hope. Subscribe here. (NewsNation) — Nicole Shanahan, Robert F. Kennedy Jr's running mate in his 2024 presidential campaign, has announced she is a new convert to Christianity. Shanahan, who is an attorney, Silicon Valley entrepreneur and former political candidate, shared the story of her baptism on her X profile, including a photo of her full water immersion. Iowa's governor signs a bill removing gender identity protections from the state's civil rights code Shanahan said a tragedy in 2024, which she is not ready to talk about, left her hopeless and struggling. 'The pain of life sometimes can consume your entire reality, and the injustice, the loss, and the extreme nature of it all can feel genuinely unbearable,' she said. A friendship with her masseuse, whom Shanahan described as a 'quiet Christian' who prayed for her for months, connected her to another friend who guided Shanahan and eventually baptized her. That friend told her Jesus could save Shanahan and 'defeat the darkness that haunts the innocent.' Shanahan revealed that she believes that demons exist and evil is real and 'all around us' after seeing addiction up close. But she said after accepting Jesus, she felt something she could hardly put into words: 'It was like being wrapped in a warm cocoon while becoming a grounded, weighted, immovable obelisk.' Vice President JD Vance, a Catholic, acknowledges the pope's criticism of US immigration crackdown Shanahan described her faith journey from Judaism to Christianity. 'It's like a veil has been lifted, revealing a deeper understanding of the struggle between light and darkness. Today, I am a Jew for Jesus,' she said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
