ONDA Announces Full Recovery of Airport Operations After Iberian Power Blackout
Rabat – The National Airports Office (ONDA) has announced that check-in services have been fully restored across all airports in Morocco. In an official statement, ONDA confirmed today that 'check-in and boarding procedures are now operating normally at all airports in the country.' The disruption followed a widespread power outage that occurred yesterday in the Iberian Peninsula, which affected the connectivity of certain telecom operators. ONDA expressed its gratitude to travelers for their patience and understanding during this incident, which was beyond its control. The office also reaffirmed that its teams remain on hand to assist passengers and ensure their comfort. Yesterday, passengers departing from Moroccan airports faced disruptions after the power outage impacted several telecommunications links. ONDA also issued a statement yesterday, explaining that the outage disrupted systems responsible for check-ins and boarding card issuance. The massive blackout swept across Spain and Portugal on Monday, closing down key cities, crippling public transportation, and immobilizing telephone networks, traffic lights, and ATMs. In addition to plunging millions into darkness across both countries, the blackout also caused some disruptions in southern France and Morocco. Some telecommunication operators, particularly those connected through servers based in Spain, like Orange Maroc, reported connection failures, directly affecting airport operations. In the meantime, all airports across Morocco have shifted to manual procedures for check-in and boarding operations. ONDA encouraged travelers to reach out to their airlines before heading to the airport to confirm flight status. It also advised passengers with confirmed bookings to arrive early to complete travel formalities under smoother conditions. Now, the power is restored , ONDA reassures, and everything is back to normalcy. Tags: airportsMorocco airportsONDAPower outage

New access routes at Marrakech Menara and Agadir Al Massira airports
As part of its «Aéroports 2030» strategic vision, Morocco's National Airports Office (ONDA) is upgrading access infrastructure at two of the country's most important tourist gateways: Marrakech Menara and Agadir Al Massira airports. These enhancements aim to improve passenger experience and meet international standards of airport service, said ONDA Wednesday in a press release. Every year, millions of tourists enter Morocco by air, with Marrakech and Agadir serving as primary points of entry. The ongoing upgrades focus on reorganizing exterior zones and entrances to ensure smoother traffic flow, better signage, and faster access to terminals according to airline. Drop-off and pick-up areas have also been redesigned to be more intuitive and passenger-friendly. The improvements were made possible through coordination with several key partners, including the Ministry of the Interior, Directorate of Immigration and Border Surveillance, DGSN, Royal Gendarmerie, Customs, and local authorities in Marrakech and Agadir. ONDA says the goal is to offer a more seamless airport experience—from arrival to departure—while preparing for increasing passenger volumes in the coming years. The initiative reflects Morocco's broader push to develop smarter, more connected, and customer-centric airports in line with global aviation standards. The «Aéroports 2030» strategy is a large-scale infrastructure modernization and expansion plan launched by Morocco's National Airports Office (ONDA) to increase the country's air traffic capacity from 30 to 80 million passengers by 2030. The program is designed to meet growing air travel demands and prepare for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. It includes expanding Royal Air Maroc's fleet, transforming Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport into a major international hub, connecting it to the high-speed rail (TGV) network, and improving regional airport infrastructure in the south and east to boost domestic air travel and tourism.

Poor Crowd Management at Mohammed V Airport Since Removal of Security Scanners
Rabat – A wave of criticism has emerged following chaotic scenes at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca. The lack of airport security scanners, which were removed in order to shorten queues at the entrances, has now created a new problem – more people are entering the airport without proper crowd management. Videos circulating online show long lines and crowded areas inside the airport, with passengers and their families forced to navigate through a disorganized and uncomfortable environment. The situation escalated due to the absence of designated waiting areas and a lack of a clear flow for passengers. This sudden change has left many travelers frustrated, especially as they struggle to find their way through the terminal to await arrivals. Morocco's National Airports Office (ONDA) had recently removed security scanners and metal detectors from the entrances of Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca , as well as Marrakech Menara Airport, aiming to alleviate the long queues that have become a persistent problem at both locations. This initiative is part of their broader 'Airports 2030' modernization plan, which is part of Morocco's larger efforts to make sure that its transportation infrastructure is up-to-par before major events such as the AFCON and FIFA World Cup 2030. In a statement, ONDA explained that the decision to relocate inspection devices was made to expedite the entry process, aiming to reduce delays and improve the overall experience for travelers. 'This measure will allow passengers to access various airport entry points more quickly, streamlining the boarding process,' ONDA announced in March. However, the immediate aftermath of the change has sparked chaos. Without proper crowd management, the airport's terminals became overcrowded, with people struggling to navigate the spaces and bottlenecking. ONDA has assured that extra human resources and equipment were deployed to manage the situation, but Moroccans are calling for urgent improvements before the world comes to the country. With Morocco's busiest airport facing rising criticism, there are growing calls for airport authorities to reassess the changes to ensure smoother, more organized operations for travelers and their families in the future. Morocco Plans Major Airport Expansion to Welcome 80 Million Passengers by 2030
Rabat – The Moroccan government has approved an ambitious plan to increase the capacity of the country's airports from 30 million to 80 million passengers by 2030, Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh announced on Wednesday. The investment plan, which is part of the 'Airports 2030' strategy of the National Airports Office (ONDA), aims to expand and modernize several airports, especially in cities that will host the 2030 World Cup. Kayouh made the announcement at the ONDA Board of Directors meeting. 'We are facing major challenges, including preparations for the 2030 World Cup. This plan will help support air transport growth, improve service quality, and enhance Morocco's competitiveness as a destination,' he said. The minister also explained that the national strategy for air transport includes a development plan for Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the country's national airline. A contract with the government aims to increase the airline's fleet from 50 to 200 aircraft by 2037. A key part of this transformation is strengthening Casablanca's Mohammed V Airport as an international hub that would connect four continents and supporting RAM's global ambitions. Another major project is the connection of Casablanca's airport with the high-speed train (TGV). A new railway station with international standards will be built to link air travel with road and regional rail transport. 'This will allow passengers to reach Tangier in less than two hours, Rabat in less than 30 minutes, and Marrakech in under 55 minutes. The regional rail network will also provide trains every 15 minutes, making the airport more accessible,' Kayouh stated. The government is also focusing on developing airports in the southern and eastern regions of the country. Cities such as Beni Mellal, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Taroudant, Tata, Essmara, and Bouarfa will benefit from these upgrades to boost domestic air travel and tourism. During the meeting, Minister Kayouh urged all board members to closely monitor the implementation of these projects and ensure their successful execution. Tags: airportMoroccoWorld Cup
