Speaking at the Global Data & AI Virtual Tech Conference 2025, Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Secretary-General Samira Zoubi says that the event provides a 'space' for dialogue and expertise exchange (Petra photo) AMMAN — The Global Data & AI Virtual Tech Conference 2025 kicked off on Tuesday in Amman. Organised by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the event will discuss several issues, mainly ways to empower education through AI and digital transformation, expand AI innovation scope within institutions, and enhance this drive in the Kingdom's public sector using AI technologies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ministry Secretary-General Samira Zoubi said that the event provides a "space" for dialogue and expertise exchange and an opportunity to explore cooperation prospects in employing AI and data to serve humanity and accelerate digital transformation in society. Zoubi said that the world is witnessing "unprecedented" transformations, driven by the technological revolution, mainly in AI and big data areas. The secretary-general added that these shifts "not only affect the economy, but also extend to reshaping" governments' roles, service delivery mechanisms, planning tools, and means of achieving "comprehensive and sustainable" development. She said that Jordan believes in investing in knowledge and technology as the "cornerstone" for building a "brighter" future, a "robust" digital economy, "a more efficient and transparent" government, and services that meet citizens' expectations and needs. Zoubi said that this belief was reflected in launching National Artificial Intelligence Policy in 2020, followed by National Strategy for 2023–2027, with a "clear" implementation plan that features 68 projects in the fields of education, health, agriculture, energy, water, government services, cybersecurity and smart cities. Over the past years, she noted that the government has sought to develop digital infrastructure, expand scope of cloud computing, and update legislation to ensure a "safe and reliable" environment. Zoubi pointed out that this effort focuses on building human capacity under training programmes for Jordan's public sector employees, youth, and entrepreneurs, in cooperation with partners from local and international institutions.

New National AI Policy to be unveiled soon
MUSCAT, JAN 29 The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology is targeting the publication of the National Artificial Intelligence Policy in the first quarter of 2025, according to officials. Speaking at the Omani AI Summit earlier this week, Hassan Fida al Lawati, National Programme Head for Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Technology at the Ministry, shared that the new policy aims to reflect ongoing changes in this strategically important field. He explained that a policy was previously published in 2021, but the updated version seeks to integrate developments in the sector in addition to factoring in feedback from industry stakeholders. Last August, the Ministry published the draft version of the policy alongside a public survey in an effort to develop guidelines 'that reflect the needs and aspirations of all segments of society.' The policy, according to the Ministry, aims to provide a governing framework for the use and development of AI technologies, while safeguarding national interests and individual rights. Last September, the Ministry launched the updated version of the Artificial Intelligence Executive Programme, a programme under the country's Digital Economy framework which aims to increase the contribution of the digital economy to the GDP from 2 per cent currently to 5 per cent by 2030 and 10 per cent by 2040. More recently, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, shared that the volume of investment inflows into Oman's Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector amounted to RO 60 million in 2024. Key AI initiatives for 2025 include the development of an Omani Large Language Model, the establishment of an AI Studio and the Open Data Platform.
