A file photo showing destruction in Gaza due to the Israeli war - WAFA CAIRO – 17 April 2025: President of the National Assembly of Slovenia Urška Klakočar Zupančič reiterated her country's rejection of the displacement of Palestinian people from their lands as she discussed the situation in Gaza with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday. The Egyptian president highlighted to the visiting Slovenian official the Egyptian efforts to revive the ceasefire in Gaza and exchange captives and prisoners, while ensuring adequate aid deliveries to save the enclave from the current humanitarian crisis. The Slovenian speaker affirmed her country's support for the Egyptian position. Sisi praised Slovenia's support for the rights of the Palestinian people, embodied in the nation's recognition of the Palestinian state. The president stressed that the establishment of a Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only guarantee for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region. Zupančič praised Egypt's pivotal role in achieving peace and stability in the Middle East. Egypt, alongside Qatar, has intensified its efforts to revive ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas and end the prolonged war in Gaza, which has so far killed over 51,000 people, predominantly women and children. Egypt is also leading an Arab initiative for the early recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which has been devastated by over 18 months of war, while ensuring that residents can remain on their land.
