I tried Southampton's favourite Deliveroo order - it didn't disappoint
The most popular Deliveroo order in Southampton was revealed last week, and it only seemed fitting that the Echo gave the burgers keeping the city in a chokehold a try. Burger institution 7 Bone started in Portswood ten years ago and the independent chain now has ten branches across the south of England. Data from the popular delivery app revealed that the Bedford Place restaurant's "Dirty Meal Deal" was the most ordered in Southampton. The deal includes any burger, dirty side and a soft drink, coming in at a steep £20.25. A burger and chips coming in upwards of £20 does make it one of the pricier takeaways in Southampton, but the fee includes a close eye for detail, and that was evident as soon as the food arrived. READ MORE: While I find that most deliveries come in generic, wet paper bags, it was a nice touch to see the 7 Bone order arrive in bespoke packaging with unique stickers in tow. 7 Bone is delivered in a paper bag with unique stickers on top. (Image: Newsquest) I opted to go for the "pbbj" sandwich, a burger that comes with chilli jam, bacon, crispy onions and a peanut butter miso satay spread. The "Prince Charles is Overrated" sandwich may have been nominated for Britain's best burger at the National Burger Awards last month but my partner opted to go for something just as heart-stopping. The Still Thinkin' About It burger with Kung Fu Fries. (Image: Newsquest) The new "Still Thinkin' About It" burger was a deliciously-messy choice, putting two smashed beef patties, thick cheese, bacon, paprika mayo, tamarind BBQ sauce and onion straws between brioche buns. 7 Bone uses bespoke cardboard boxes which fold out into mini-plates. (Image: Newsquest) Both meals arrived in clever cardboard boxes which opened out into mini plates and kept the food clean and warm while it was delivered. The pbbj burger and chippy fries with curry sauce and crispy onions. (Image: Newsquest) My burger itself was fantastic, with a chilli jam that seriously surprised me in both flavour and heat, taking the sandwich to the next level. The Still Thinkin' About It burger. (Image: Newsquest) The "chippy fries" with curry sauce and crispy onions were also some of the best I had ever had from a Southampton takeaway. I could see the thick cheese melted on my partner's burger, and she loved the unique addition of onion straws inside the bun, bringing a crisp to the gooey beef and cheese inside. Two burgers coming up north of £40 means 7 Bone will not be a regular treat, but the delicious and dangerously-messy takeaway is definitely worth the calories.
