One-of-One Rally Red 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Heads to Mecum Indy 2025 Auction
Read the full story on Modern Car Collector A singular example of American performance history is poised to cross the auction block at Mecum Indy 2025: a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe, the only known model finished in Rally Red with a matching red interior. Scheduled for sale on Saturday, May 17, the L88 represents the pinnacle of Corvette performance from the muscle car era. Only 20 examples of the L88 were produced for the 1967 model year, making it one of the most sought-after Corvettes ever built. What sets this car further apart is its one-of-one color combination and an extensive history of preservation and recognition within the collector car community. Originally equipped with a 427-cubic-inch V8 rated at 430 horsepower—a conservative estimate given its true output exceeded 500 hp—the L88 was a track-focused machine intended for serious racers. Built with 12.5:1 compression, a high-lift camshaft, a 4-barrel carburetor, and the infamous Muncie M22 'Rock Crusher' 4-speed manual transmission, the L88 was Chevrolet's way of quietly producing a factory race car. This particular example, chassis 194377S115791, shows just under 12,000 miles and retains its original tank sticker. It has received multiple accolades over the decades, including Bloomington Gold certification (1994, 2014), four appearances in the Bloomington Gold Special Collection, and top honors from the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) including a Regional Performance Verification award and the coveted Duntov Mark of Excellence. With previous ownership in the esteemed Norvell, Steinman Bros, and Rare Wheels collections, this L88 also earned a Chip's Choice award at Corvettes at Carlisle, underscoring its rarity and desirability. For collectors seeking one of the most documented, awarded, and unique L88 Corvettes in existence, this car represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a true piece of Corvette legend. This vehicle is selling at Dana Mecum's 38th Original Spring Classic May 9-17. Watch the action in person or on ESPN+. With 3,000 classic and collectors vehicles for sale, there's a great selection! Award-Winning 1961 Corvette C1 Fuelie Heads to Auction
⚡️ Read the full article on Motorious A pristine example of early American performance is drawing attention online this week as a 1961 Chevrolet Corvette C1—complete with its original fuel-injected V8—hits the virtual auction block on Bring a Trailer. Offered by Bullet Motorsports, the low-mileage convertible is one of only 1,194 Corvettes ever to receive the prestigious NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award. First awarded in 1993, the honor reflects the car's authenticity and restoration quality, certified through rigorous judging at the chapter, regional, and national level by the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS). Under the hood, the C1 features a fuel-injected 283-cubic-inch V8 engine, factory-rated at 275 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction limited-slip rear differential. The vehicle retains period-correct mechanicals, including the rare Rochester mechanical fuel injection system that helped cement the Corvette's performance legacy in the early '60s. Finished in a classic white exterior over vibrant red vinyl upholstery, the Corvette is presented with a white soft top, 15-inch steel wheels with spinner-style covers, and whitewall BFGoodrich tires. Inside, period-correct features include a Wonderbar AM radio, dash-mounted clock, analog gauges, and lap belts. Although the odometer shows just 300 miles, the vehicle's total mileage is unknown. The Corvette underwent an extensive refurbishment under previous ownership, and judging materials and documentation from the early 1990s—including the Duntov Award and Top Flight certifications—accompany the sale.
