DAFM: Sales of fertilisers increase by over 105%
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has said that 694,050t of fertiliser was sold in the first two quarters of the fertiliser year.
This represents an increase of almost 106% when compared to the corresponding amount in the previous year when 337,246t of fertiliser was sold.
However, the latest figure is still below the totals for Q1 and Q2 in 2021/2022 of 808,509t and 2020/2021 of 934,307t.
The National Fertiliser Database statistics show that from October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 (covering Q1 and Q2) 388,657t of compound fertilisers and 305,393t of straight fertilisers were sold.
Over 244,600t of nutrient was sold in the period, which is up 97% on the previous year.
The department previously confirmed that 20,035t of fertiliser was sold in Q1, representing a 38% increase (5,530t) on the same period in the previous year.
This means that some 674,000t of fertiliser was purchased in the three months up to March 31.
