Govt to promote millet cultivation in 47 dists
Lucknow: The state govt is set to promote cultivation of millets or 'Shri Anna' across 47 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
A comprehensive implementation plan has been prepared under the State Action Plan for 2025-26, as part of the National Food Security and Nutrition Mission, a govt spokesperson said.
The initiative aims to benefit small and marginal farmers by increasing their income while ensuring the availability of nutrient-rich grains to the people. Traditional and health-enhancing crops such as jowar, bajra, kodo, and sawa are being promoted under this plan.
Jowar cultivation will be carried out in 24 districts including Ayodhya, Barabanki, Banda, Chitrakoot, Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Fatehpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Sultanpur, Kaushambi, Mahoba, Rae Bareli, Prayagraj, Amethi, Sonbhadra, Sitapur, Hardoi, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh, Unnao, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, and Varanasi.
Likewise, bajra cultivation will be done in 38 districts including Agra, Budaun, Aligarh, Firozabad, Sambhal, Hathras, Etah, Mathura, Kasganj, Etawah, Auraiya, Prayagraj, Kanpur Dehat, Mainpuri, Ghazipur, Bareilly, Jalaun, Mirzapur, Bulandshahr, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Chitrakoot, Bhadohi, Fatehpur, Varanasi, Farrukhabad, Jaunpur, Chandauli, Banda, Kannauj, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Amroha, Moradabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Rampur, Kanpur Nagar, and Sitapur.
Sanwa cultivation will be carried out in 12 districts including Jalaun, Sonbhadra, Chitrakoot, Mirzapur, Jaunpur, Hardoi, Pratapgarh, Farrukhabad, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Chandauli, and Hamirpur.
Similarly, Kodo cultivation will be done in 13 districts namely Jalaun, Sonbhadra, Chitrakoot, Mirzapur, Farrukhabad, Chandauli, Bhadohi, Pratapgarh, Jaunpur, Hardoi, Varanasi, Moradabad, and Hamirpur.
