Sr cop starts free online platform to help engg & medical aspirants
1 2 Ranchi: Medical and engineering aspirants who are unable to join expensive coaching classes can now receive free and high-quality guidance in physics and mathematics — considered the two toughest subjects of entrance examinations — through an online platform. Thanks to DIG of the state criminal investigation department, Chandan Kumar Jha, who with his friend Ajit Kumar, both graduates from the National Institute of Technology Calicut, have recently rolled out a digital initiative on YouTube titled EduCop — Education and Cop to coach the aspirants. Within days of its launch, around 1,500 students joined the YouTube channel. Jha and Kumar are uploading one video each on mathematics and physics respectively every day except for Sundays. Besides, they have also launched WhatsApp and Telegram channels to provide study materials, homework, and access to recorded sessions. Jha, who also cracked the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination and the Combined Aptitude Test before qualifying as an IPS officer in 2011, said, "Since my posting as SP Gumla in 2017, I started teaching students whenever I could manage a few hours. The exercise continued during my postings in other districts like Bokaro. The online platform is aimed at reaching out to the maximum number of students. Our focus is mainly on economically weaker sections of society so that no dream is lost for lack of resources." Jha said that every day after returning from the office, he brushes up on a topic with self-study and then uploads a video lecture on EduCop. He said that the channel encourages interactive learning, allowing students to post queries in the comments section or email their doubts. "Each video is accompanied by assignments for reinforcement of concepts," he said. Notably, Jha's friend Kumar has 11 years of teaching experience. Their educational initiative is also aimed at preparing students for NDA and various state-level engineering entrance examinations, he said. NIT-C joins HERITAGE Network, signs MoU with European institutes
The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT-C) has established a series of high-impact partnerships with premier European institutions by signing MoUs with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), in addition to its induction into the HERITAGE Network, an Indo-European network of 30 leading technical higher education institutions involved in joint collaboration. A press release issued here on Friday (May 23) said that a team led by NITC Director Prasad Krishna, which visited the European institutes, also held discussions with representatives of the University of Amsterdam and the University of Groningen on fostering academic and research collaborations, as well as prospective student exchange programmes. The institute also explored cooperation in semiconductor packaging research with the Chip Integration Technology Center (CITC) in the Netherlands. These emerging partnerships align closely with several national research and development missions, particularly in advanced electronics and high-tech manufacturing. 'Our partnerships are not just institutional, but generational. They offer the youth of India a chance to access the world, and just as importantly, bring the world to India,' Prof. Krishna said. The election of NITC to the HERITAGE Network during its General Assembly on May 14 at TU Dresden was a significant national achievement. By joining HERITAGE, NITC paves the way for deeper integration into international consortia, thereby enhancing India's academic soft power and creating robust opportunities for Indian students in joint degree programmes, research fellowships, and global internships. The network brings together premier institutions from India and Europe, fostering academic synergy in science, engineering, technology, and design.

Akkulam glass bridge set for opening in May
T'puram: The long-awaited opening of the glass bridge at Akkulam Tourist Village is likely to take place in May, with the final inspection by the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT-C) scheduled next month. Tourism officials confirmed that all construction and repair works on the bridge were completed, and the bridge will be opened to the public once the NIT's inspection report grants approval. Initially, the glass bridge was slated for an April 2024 inauguration. However, the discovery of cracks in the 12mm, three-layered glass panels delayed the plan, forcing authorities to replace the damaged sections. A senior tourism department official said the upcoming inspection is the final hurdle. "All works related to the glass bridge have been completed. Now, we are awaiting NIT's inspection. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Co-Founder of Google Brain, Andrew Ng, Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo They will also inspect the floating sea bridges at Varkala and Chavakkadu in Thrissur. So, the opening will not be delayed further," he said. The delay in opening the bridge dragged on for nearly a year after experts from NIT and a Chennai-based firm identified cracks during a safety review. Although the overall structure was deemed safe, the entire glass surface was replaced to ensure maximum public safety. Following recommendations from a state-appointed committee, an additional glass layer was also added to reinforce the structure. The enhanced bridge now features several upgrades, including an LED wall that creates a 'breaking glass' illusion, adding to the thrill. Spanning 52 metres, the glass bridge is the longest of its kind in the region. Visitors will also experience attractions such as artificial fog, mist effects, and dynamic LED lighting. Unlike similar glass bridges at Vagamon and Wayanad, the Akkulam bridge will remain open at night, illuminated. Located beside the scenic Akkulam Lake and near the popular Air Force Museum, the bridge is expected to become a major draw for both adventure seekers and families once it opens.

National conclave on NEP concludes at NITC
The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) successfully hosted a two-day national conclave titled 'Implementation of NEP 2020: Moving Towards Academic Excellence' on April 25 and 26. The event served as a national platform for academic leaders, policymakers, nodal officers, and representatives from Centrally Funded Institutions (CFIs) to engage in in-depth and collaborative dialogue on strategies for effectively implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Chairman of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) Anil D. Sahasrabudhe in his inaugural address, called for a paradigm shift in higher education that emphasises flexibility, innovation, and holistic student development. Former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Ved Prakash in his keynote address, reflected on the foundational principles of NEP 2020 and highlighted the urgent need for systemic reforms encouraging multidisciplinary learning, student-centric approaches, and greater internationalisation in Indian higher education. Throughout the two days, the conclave featured a series of expert-led sessions. Former Officer on Special Duty (NEP) at the Ministry of Education Shakila Shamsu addressed the need for holistic and multidisciplinary education, advocating experiential and learner-driven models that support flexible academic structures and lifelong learning. In a virtual session, former Director of IIT Delhi and current Group Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani V. Ramgopal Rao spoke on the long-term impact of NEP 2020 on global university rankings. He emphasised that strategic implementation of the policy could enable Indian institutions to enhance research output, foster innovation ecosystems, and build meaningful international partnerships. Adding to the discourse on global engagement, P. Arumugam of IIT Roorkee shared insights on the internationalisation of higher education.
