Counterterror nominee and Jan. 6 denier working as Gabbard's top aide
Joseph Kent, a former Green Beret and two-time GOP congressional hopeful who has been nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the National Counterterrorism Center, has been quietly working as the top aide to Tulsi Gabbard, the head of the U.S. spy community.
Kent, who stirred controversy during his congressional runs when links to far-right extremists and pro-Russian views emerged, has been serving as Director of National Intelligence Gabbard's acting chief of staff, according to three people familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the role has not been publicly announced.
