Odisha tops in Lakhpati Didi initiative with Nayagarh leading the way

1 2 Bhubaneswar: Odisha emerged as the top-performing state in India under the Lakhpati Didi initiative, with Nayagarh district recording a remarkable 98% success rate in transforming self-help group (SHG) members into financially independent women earning over Rs1 lakh annually. The achievement was highlighted during the National Lakhpati Didi Conference-2025, held here on Thursday. Addressing the conference attended by Lakhpati Didis and govt officials across 25 states and union territories, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi lauded the initiative for going beyond economic empowerment. "The Lakhpati Didi scheme is not merely a welfare programme but an inclusive and sustainable development strategy. It is a social movement to instil financial independence and leadership among rural women," Majhi said. Odisha has already transformed nearly 17 lakh women into Lakhpati Didis, leading the country in the initiative's implementation. He said interest-free loans up to Rs 10 lakh are being provided to women in all SHGs in Odisha. The revolving fund assistance has been increased from Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000.
