The Embassy of Vietnam in Qatar commemorated the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chí Minh, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, paying tribute to his profound legacy as the founding father of modern Vietnam and a global symbol of peace, independence, and unity.
Addressing the media during the event, Ambassador of Vietnam to Qatar HE Nguyen Huy Hiep reflected on the life and achievements of the late leader.
Born in 1890, Ho Chí Minh dedicated his life to the cause of Vietnam's liberation from colonial rule. He led the country to independence in 1945 and laid the groundwork for national reunification. His leadership played a vital role in Vietnam's historic victories over French colonial forces and the U.S intervention.
Ambassador Nguyen described Ho Chí Minh not only as a revolutionary leader but also as a respected cultural icon, adding that in 1987, UNESCO honoured him as a 'National Liberation Hero and Outstanding Cultural Figure'.
A multilingual scholar with deep knowledge of philosophy and literature, Ho Chí Minh stood for ethical living, humility, and simplicity, he said, adding that his modest lifestyle and moral values continue to serve as an inspiration for generations.
Ho Chí Minh was a strong advocate for peace and solidarity among nations.
The envoy added that the Vietnamese leader supported anti-colonial movements, particularly in the Arab world, and promoted dialogue and cooperation.
These ideals align with Qatar's current diplomatic principles and commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, he said.
To celebrate his enduring influence and Vietnam's upcoming milestones, the Vietnamese ambassador in Doha announced a special cultural initiative.
A painting exhibition titled 'A Brief History of Vietnam' will be held from September 12 to 19 to mark the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's independence.
The exhibition will feature 24 artworks by Vietnamese artists, showcasing the country's rich heritage and history.
Additional cultural programmes, including performances and artist exchanges, are also planned in the near future, he added.
Ambassador Nguyen also highlighted strengthening bilateral ties between Vietnam and Qatar.
'Tourism from Qatar to Vietnam is steadily increasing, and both countries are working together to promote Vietnam as a destination through media partnerships and collaboration with Vietnam's Ministry of Culture. Trade between the two nations is also experiencing growth, reflecting a deepening and diversified relationship,' he said.
As Vietnam celebrates the legacy of President Ho Chí Minh and its 80th year of independence, the Embassy encourages continued engagement through cultural and media efforts. His enduring values of peace, cooperation, and solidarity remain a guiding light for both Vietnam and its international partners, including Qatar.
