Hundreds of top attractions are opening their doors for free or at seriously discounted prices this weekend and next week - you just need a lottery ticket to get the deal. National Lottery Open Week is back and, to celebrate 30 years of the lottery, organisers are promising it's going to be bigger than ever with more than 750 lottery-funded venues taking part. It includes the Tate Modern, London Science Museum, the Globe Theatre and Horniman Butterfly House in London together with the Roman Baths Time Detective Archaeology Experience in Bath. Closer to home, you can enjoy a film preview at MAC arts centre in Cannon Hill Park, explore Shakespeare's museums in Stratford-upon-Avon, spend the day at Chatsworth House, Garden and Farmyard near Derby, head to Aston Manor Road Transport Museum or visit Berrington Hall near Leominster. National Lottery set to offer free entry to Cumbrian attractions
The National Lottery is set to offer free and discounted entry to select attractions next month. National Lottery Open Week will run from March 15 to March 23. During this time, people with a valid National Lottery ticket, Scratchcard, or Instant Win Game can enjoy special offers at hundreds of venues across the UK. This includes historical houses, castles, museums, wildlife hotspots, sports venues, art galleries, theatres, and cinemas. Darren Henley, chief executive of Arts Council England and chair of the National Lottery Forum, said: "National Lottery Open Week is a chance to get outside and explore the UK's rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture through free and low-cost days out. "We're thrilled to bring back National Lottery Open Week for another year. "It's our way of thanking National Lottery players who raise £30 million every week for Good Causes, supporting vital projects in arts, sports, heritage, and communities nationwide." In Cumbria, there are several attractions offering free entry or discounts. Carlisle Castle and Furness Abbey, both English Heritage sites, will have free entry on March 22 and March 23. Sizergh, a National Trust property, will also have free entry. Wordsworth Grasmere will have free entry on March 15 and March 18 to March 22. The RSPB Haweswater nature reserve will have a free guided walk on March 21. Lake District Estates will have 10 per cent off self-catering and glamping holidays. Ravenglass Railway Pullman Camping Coaches and Stationmaster Hilton Cottage will have 10 per cent off 2025 holidays. People can use any retail or online National Lottery ticket, including Lotto, EuroMillions, Set 4 Life, and Thunderball, or National Lottery Scratchcard or Instant Win Games, for special offers at selected attractions. Free entry to Tredegar House near Newport this March
Visitors to a 17th-century mansion near Newport will be able to enter for free this March. Tredegar House, run by the National Trust, is one of hundreds of National Lottery-funded venues and attractions across the UK offering free and discounted entry as part of National Lottery Open Week. The initiative is a thank you to players for the £30 million they raise for good causes every week. From Saturday, March 15, to Sunday, March 23, anyone with a valid online or retail National Lottery ticket, scratch card, or instant win game can enjoy a low-cost day out at these venues. Dyffryn Gardens in Cardiff will also be offering free entry, while Cardiff Castle will be offering 50 per cent off tickets from March 17 to 21. The Wales Millennium Centre, meanwhile, will be offering two-for-one on backstage tours on March 21. How to get free access to hundreds of National Trust properties next month with just a lottery ticket
This March, people will be able to visit hundreds of National Trust properties and National Lottery-funded venues across the UK for free - and all you need is a lottery ticket. It's part of National Lottery Open Week taking place from 15-23 March. The open week is held to say thank you for the £30m raised for good causes every week by National Lottery players - and to encourage people to say yes to new experiences. In 2024, over 500 National Lottery funded venues across the UK said thank you to The National Lottery players by offering free and low-cost days out. All visitors will need to unlock the offer is any retail or online National Lottery ticket, scratchcard or Instant Win Game. The date of draw or purchase of the ticket isn't relevant. Families can also visit the last surviving seaside Victorian glasshouse before restoration begins at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Hard hat tours are available on Saturday 15 March, to hear more about plans for the restoration. Dozens of venues will be taking part across the North West as part of the open week, perfect for a day out in the spring. Various National Trust properties are taking part with visitors able to get free entry with a lottery ticket. National Trust sites near Greater Manchester include Dunham Massey, Hare Hill and Lyme Park in Cheshire, as well as Quarry Bank Mill. Some of the other venues taking part in the North West are the British Commercial Vehicle Museum Trust with 20% of entrance tickets; Lancaster Maritime Museum; Castlefield Gallery; and Open Eye Gallery, amongst others.
