Daily Weather Update from FOX Weather: New storm brings escalating tornado threat during final week of April

A spring storm system poised to sweep across the heartland during the final week of April is expected to bring a dangerous, multi-day severe weather event, with forecasters closely monitoring conditions from Oklahoma City and Tulsa to Minneapolis and Duluth. The threat begins Monday, with the greatest risk appearing to center on Iowa and surrounding portions of Kansas, Minnesota and Wisconsin, where an intensifying low-level jet could increase both the coverage and severity of thunderstorms. The FOX Forecast Center warns all modes of severe weather will be possible, including large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes, with the event likely to be more organized than what the Plains have recently experienced. A New Jersey man has been arrested and is facing arson charges after being accused of starting the Jones Road Wildfire that has consumed more than 15,000 acres in Ocean County since Tuesday. In a statement, officials said investigators determined that the cause of the fire was an improperly extinguished bonfire. They said 19-year-old Joseph Kling, of Waretown, is accused of setting wooden pallets on fire and leaving the area without the fire being fully extinguished. Kling has been charged with aggravated arson and arson in connection with the wildfire. As of Friday morning, the Jones Road Wildfire has burned about 15,250 acres and is about 50% contained. Daily Weather Update from FOX Weather: NJ fire burns over 8,500 acres as Plains brace for more severe weather

Crews are continuing their relentless assault to beat back the flames of a massive wildfire that's exploding in size near the New Jersey shore. Thousands of residents have been forced to flee for safety while thick smoke choked the region, closing a miles-long stretch of the state's busiest highway for hours. The Jones Road Wildfire sparked on Tuesday in the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area near Barnegat Township in Ocean County and quickly began to grow in size. As of Wednesday, it had consumed 8,500 acres and was only 10% contained. Continuing into Wednesday and Thursday, an active period of weather is in store for the Plains, including Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. The FOX Forecast Center said a chance of severe storms or flash flooding looks very possible into the weekend. As the sun breaks through during the afternoon on Wednesday, enough heating could occur to support thunderstorm development. Storms that form here could bring brief strong wind gusts and small hail, though coverage and intensity will depend on how much sun breaks through. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible farther south, across the southern Plains and into far west Texas. These stronger storms may bring large hail and damaging winds. There is a potential for tornadoes to develop, but the overall severe weather threat will gradually decrease after sunset. When you get called away from Easter dinner to wrangle an alligator, sometimes you need to use the tools you have on site, which is what one Florida gator handler did on the holiday. Mike Dragich shared a video with FOX Weather showing the wild Sunday encounter in Jacksonville, Florida. He said a woman was letting her dog out when she noticed the scaly tail of the 7-foot alligator slide by her patio. Powerful thunderstorms that produced large hail, damaging wind gusts, tornadoes and flooding tore across the Plains and Midwest in the central U.S. over Easter weekend, leaving at least three people dead. According to Hughes County Emergency Management in Oklahoma, a tornado with a preliminary rating of Ef-1 with winds of 105-110 mph touched down in the community of Spaulding, located southeast of Oklahoma City, on Saturday night. One person was killed, and two others were injured. In Moore, at least two people, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed when flooding swept their vehicle away. Officials at the Vatican in Italy announced the death of Pope Francis on Easter Monday. "Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis," announced Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber. "At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father." People from around the world will now descend upon the Vatican in Vatican City, located within Rome, to mourn Pope Francis's death while a new Pope is chosen. Temperatures in Vatican City will range from the low to mid-70s with sunny skies and a few chances of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday. A New York golfer was aiming for a birdie but got an eagle instead. A video shows him in the Long Island town of Old Westbury nearly losing his approach shot to a bald eagle sitting perched on the course. The man hit the ball onto the green in a nice approach shot, setting him up well for a relatively short putt. In a stroke of bad luck, the eagle may have thought he was set up well for a quick snack. A multi-day severe weather pattern that has already brought tornadoes and blistering hail to the Mississippi Valley over the past two days continues to threaten tens of millions into Easter Weekend, with perhaps the most dangerous day of thunderstorms still yet to come on Sunday. Saturday will see the severe storm threat area shift only a bit as the cold front slowly sinks to the south and east. Scattered severe storms are possible along the front from the Ohio Valley through the Mid-South into the Southern Plains on Saturday afternoon and evening, according to the FOX Forecast Center. However, some severe weather already got a head start in Arkansas early Saturday morning. A tornado-warned left a trail of damage in Springdale, with power lines knocked askew, some damaged cars, and metal streetlights bent in half. A significant late-season snowstorm is bringing high winds and as much as 1-2 feet of snow to the Rockies through Saturday, including multiple inches of snow around the Denver area. Estes Park, Colorado recorded 6 inches of snow before 9 a.m. local time on Friday. By Saturday morning, about 2-4 inches fell around much of the Denver metro area, with some spots getting as much as 7 inches, according to FOX Weather Correspondent Brandy Campbell. The system begins to move into the Plains by Saturday afternoon, where snow will drop off. Calling all national park lovers! RMNP offers free entry, events for National Parks Week
Rocky Mountain National Park will celebrate National Parks Week with free admission on Saturday and interactive activities through April 27 to connect visitors with the great outdoors. Why it matters: Despite ongoing staffing and budget struggles stemming from Trump administration cuts, RMNP is still serving up a full slate of programming, just about an hour's drive from Boulder County. State of play: All national park sites will waive entrance fees on Saturday. Some parks, including Rocky Mountain, will hold additional events throughout the week.
