Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's Dog Augie Dies 12 Years After Rescue: 'There Will Never Be Another Like Him'

The comedian shared the news the following day to her Instagram, with a carousel of photos of their late dog

On Saturday, May 17, DeGeneres, 67, shared on Instagram that Augie died on Friday, May 16.
'We had to say goodbye to Augie yesterday. We rescued him 12 years ago and he was so grateful,' DeGeneres wrote in the caption.
She continued: 'He gave us so much love. He will be missed. There will never be another like him.'
She posted several adorable snaps of Augie, including a couple of sweet images of him cuddling up to de Rossi, 52. DeGeneres also added a few photos of a relaxed Augie sleeping around the couple's home.

Several people sent the couple their condolences in the comment section. Her former daytime talk show producer, Andy Lassner, wrote, '💔💔I loved that dog.'
Courteney Cox added, '💔💔💔.'
On Monday, May 19, DeGeneres posted a video of herself, de Rossi and Augie filmed a month before his death. The video was created in promotion of DeGeneres' skincare company, Kind Science.
'Thank you for all of your kind messages about Augie. We filmed this last month and planned to post it today,' she explained in the caption. 'I don't care what Portia says, please don't call me the Deal Queen. We love you, Augie.'
In May 2021, de Rossi posted an Instagram photo with Augie in honor of National Pet Rescue Day.
'Me and my little man Augie just after we rescued him," the Arrested Development star wrote. "He was returned to the shelter twice before we took him. He is truly the best dog I've ever had—don't tell the others!'
In March 2020, de Rossi added a photo of Augie with their dog, Wally, as the two cuddled together. 'We all need somebody to lean on,' she wrote.
A few days later, she posted a photo of DeGeneres surrounded by all their pets, and Augie found himself all by himself in DeGeneres' lap. ' best support system during this difficult time,' de Rossi captioned the post.
