CBSE Class 12 exam results: Bengaluru region secures above 95% pass percentage
In the results of the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) Class 12 examinations declared on Tuesday, Bengaluru region recorded a 95.95 per cent pass percentage, down by 1 per cent from the previous year and 3 per cent from 2023. As many as 21,664 students (out of 21,745 who had registered) appeared for the Class 12 examinations. These included 11,712 boys and 9,952 girls from 304 schools across Karnataka. Girls outshone boys with a pass percentage of 96.90 per cent against 95.14 per cent. Bengaluru region, which includes the entire Karnataka, stood fourth among the 17 regions considered for the exams, after Vijayawada (99.60 per cent), Thiruvananthapuram (99.32 per cent), and Chennai (97.39 per cent). Speaking to the principal of a CBSE school said, 'The pass percentage in humanities and commerce is steady. However, the pass percentage of the science stream appears to be dwindling gradually. This is because science students appear for more competitive exams than students from other streams. They prepare for exams like NEET, JEE Mains, and other related exams, which exert relatively high pressure. Overall, the pass percentage is also dipping because of the decreasing attention span of students thanks to social media.' Reyansh Devnani, 17, is the topper in the science stream with a stellar 99 per cent score. He is a student of Narayana Olympiad School, Sahakaranagara. Aiming for IIT Madras, Devnani, credited his school's structured classroom programme for his strong performance in the board examination. 'My school helped clear all doubts, and I revised the NCERT syllabus thoroughly,' he said. After the JEE Mains, he utilised the extra time to strengthen his concepts ahead of the board exams. Despite finding English challenging, Devnani devoted additional hours to improving his performance. To unwind, he used to spend time with friends and play football. His goal is to pursue a core engineering subject at IIT Madras, depending on his rank. 'Focusing on concepts is key,' he said, emphasising a disciplined approach to problem-solving. Rishika Vinod Damani, from National Public School, HSR Layout, scored 98 per cent in commerce. She attributed her success to prioritising revision, particularly in accountancy. Studying up to eight hours daily in the run-up to the exams, she solved numerous sample papers. Inspired by her father's work in finance, Damani aspires to become a chartered accountant and pursue a chartered financial analyst (CFA) certification. 'Numbers excite me, and practice ensures accuracy,' she said. In her free time, she reads fiction and non-fiction. Ananya Hitesh Mrig, 18, also from HSR Layout's National Public School, scored an impressive 98 per cent in her humanities board exams. 'It feels surreal; nobody expected this,' she exclaimed. Passionate about psychology and human behaviour, Mrig attributed her success to consistent effort and focus. She studied one to two hours daily, prioritising classroom attention and continuous assessments at school. Revisions at home solidified her understanding. Initially, economics posed a challenge, but she adapted over time, by dedicating more time to the subject. Mrig remains undecided about her future, torn between political science, economics, philosophy, and psychology—all of which she believes shape society. A voracious reader and guitarist, she balances academics with hobbies. Her advice? 'Stay consistent and don't stress.' In an inspiring tale of perseverance and dedication, Dr R Rangamanju from Bengaluru has emerged as Karnataka's state topper in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 , securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 24. A qualified doctor, Rangamanju managed to crack one of India's most competitive exams in his sixth attempt—and notably, without formal coaching for the preliminary or mains stages. His father was his inspiration An alumnus of National Public School , Rajajinagar, Rangamanju pursued his MBBS from Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). His journey into civil services was fuelled by a personal calling. His late father, R Ramesh, a former IPS officer who passed away while still in service, remains Rangamanju's greatest source of inspiration. His commitment to continuing a legacy of public service was further bolstered by the unwavering support of his mother, who stood by him through the years of preparation. He cracked UPSC without formal coaching Interestingly, AI tools also played an indirect role in his preparation journey. Despite not opting for traditional coaching, Rangamanju kept a disciplined approach. He chose anthropology as his optional subject and primarily relied on self-study and collaborative learning through group study sessions with close friends. While he did not receive structured coaching for the written stages, he did participate in a test series to simulate exam conditions and refine his answers. For the final interview round, he sought guidance from a private academy. He credited the structured feedback he received during the personality test preparation as a key contributor to his success.
