New committee to address financial irregularities, says Anwar
PETALING JAYA: The Special Committee Meeting of the National Tatakelola Cabinet (JKKTN) has agreed to establish a Serious Irregular Action Committee (JTKS) to handle audits related to financial irregularities, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He stated this initiative would coincide with strengthening the state audit department through amendments to the 1957 Audit Act.
"As I presided over the JKKTN on Tuesday (June 3), serious attention was given to audit findings related to irregularities that could affect the credibility of the country's fiscal management," said the Prime Minister on Facebook.
He said the JTKS aims to ensure more holistic, targeted, and high-impact follow-up actions, aligning with accountability, transparency, and integrity principles.
Last month, Auditor-General Wan Suraya Wan Radzi said the amended Audit Act, which came into force last year, empowers the department to audit 1,856 GLCs.
She noted that beyond recovering public funds, the audit process aims to determine whether serious irregularities occurred, including government lapses or systemic failures.
