Guntur: Andhra Pradesh state women's commission chairperson Rayapati Sailaja said the commission will launch a crackdown against those involved in crimes against women , which will also include obscene and hate posts against women in social media. Chargesheet in Pathanamthitta minor abuse case submitted
The police have submitted a chargesheet in the Pathanamthitta minor abuse case, regarded as the largest such case to be reported in the State, arraigning 59 individuals as accused. Of the 59 accused, 57 have been arrested, while Look Out Circulars (LOCs) have been issued for the remaining two, who are currently abroad. Five of the accused are minors. The chargesheet was submitted to the Pathanamthitta Additional Sessions Court-I. A total of 30 cases linked to the abuse were registered across five police stations, with Elavumthitta recording the highest number (17). Cases were also filed in Pathanamthitta, Malayalappuzha, Pandalam, and Kallambalam stations. The accused include classmates and neighbours of the survivor. Investigations also revealed that some circulated video footage of the abuse via social media. Several perpetrators first met the victim at the Pathanamthitta private bus stand, from where she was taken to multiple locations and subjected to abuse. The case emerged after the survivor, now 18, disclosed that she had been abused by multiple individuals since the age of 13. The abuse allegedly began when a neighbour showed her pornographic videos on his phone. When she turned 16, he subjected her to sexual abuse by taking to an isolated hill near their home and later introduced her to his friends for further exploitation. The case also drew interventions from the National Women's Commission and the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
