27-year-old flight attendant from Maharashtra among victims of Air India plane crash
Roshni Songhare, a 27-year-old flight crew member from Dombivli in Maharashtra, was among those who lost their lives in the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash on Thursday. She was onboard Air India flight AI171, which was headed to London but crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The Boeing aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew, plunged into a medical college complex in Ahmedabad's Meghaninagar area and burst into flames. Roshni had only just bid farewell to her family a day earlier before heading to Ahmedabad for duty. A resident of Nav Umiya Krupa Society on Rajaji Path in Dombivli East, she lived with her father Rajendra, mother Rajshree and brother Vignesh. The family had moved from Mumbai's Grant Road area to Dombivli two years ago. Roshni completed her education in Mumbai and, despite financial hardships, pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a flight attendant through perseverance and brother works in a private shipping firm, while her parents remain at home. The family's grief has been met with an outpouring of support from the local crash, being labeled as one of the worst aviation tragedies in recent Indian history, has led to nationwide mourning and calls for a thorough investigation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is coordinating with embassies of affected foreign nationals, including 53 British citizens, 7 Portuguese and 1 Canadian who were Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, visited the crash site. Shah said that rescue operations were hindered by extreme heat caused by the burning of 1.25 lakh litres of aviation fuel. 'Because of the intense fire, there was no chance to save anyone,' Shah told reporters. Authorities have recovered nearly all bodies from the wreckage, and DNA identification is underway. Must Watch
