NTPC Lara's girl empowerment mission fosters dreams
RAIPUR: NTPC Lara's Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) is shaping futures and building confidence among 40 young girls from nearby villages, as part of its flagship CSR initiative aligned with the national "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao" campaign.
Now in its sixth year—and fourth at NTPC Lara—the programme runs from May 17 to June 13, offering a unique blend of academic and life skill training to girls aged 10–12 from local government schools.
Held during summer vacation, the programme includes interactive lessons in Hindi, English, Mathematics, and Environmental Science, along with sessions on yoga, hygiene, computer literacy, dance, drama, public speaking, and self-defence.
Eminent women role models inspire the participants—this year, Pussore Tehsildar Neha Upadhyay spoke about achieving goals through determination.
The impact is already visible. Participant Roshni Sao dreams of becoming a doctor to serve her remote village. Sakshi Chouhan wants to join the police force, and Sunaina Nishad aspires to be a teacher. NTPC Lara stands beside them as a catalyst for their ambitions.
CMD Gurdeep Singh and RED Pradipita Kumar Mishra personally interacted with the girls, offering encouragement and sharing experiences. Even after the workshop ends, NTPC Lara stays in touch with participants through follow-up initiatives.
