1 2 3 Noida: District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma held a meeting with stakeholders on Monday and directed officials to ensure maximum rainwater conservation during the coming monsoon and to prioritise the Catch the Rain campaign under the Jal Shakti Mission. The DM directed officials to install rooftop rainwater harvesting systems on all govt and semi-govt buildings. He also emphasised the need to renovate and reuse traditional waterbodies, recharge borewells, develop watersheds, intensify tree plantation, rejuvenate small rivers, and other water conservation-related activities relevant to the district. Verma further asked the officials to ensure that all obstructions in the path of water flow to Amrit Sarovars are removed. Emphasising the need for effective rainwater harvesting in all parks and public places in urban areas, he added, "Office buildings, primary schools, Anganwadi centres, community health centres, panchayat buildings, and high-rise societies should check if the installed water harvest structures are working properly, and those not yet fitted should complete it. The DM also stressed the importance of ensuring that information on tree plantations conducted by other departments is fed into the Jal Shakti Abhiyan portal. "Install water treatment plants to purify the dirty water from drains that flow into ponds, to prevent groundwater pollution," Verma told officials at the meeting. Additionally, officials from the education department, groundwater department, and Nehru Yuva Kendra were instructed to promote the 'Catch the Rain' campaign across the district through public awareness programmes, so that water conservation becomes a people's movement. He also said that the related progress should be fed into the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) portal. "Stand tall as India's protector," the ministry said in an appeal made on May 12 and 13. Siddipet district officials said the aim of the initiative by central govt was to enrol volunteers who would provide assistance during critical times. "Be the hero your city needs," the MY Bharat initiative said in an appeal to youth. M Rajith Reddy, an official of Nehru Yuva Kendra for Medak (erstwhile), said youth who are interested in heeding the call of the govt and joining civil defence can contact phone number 9650889829 for more information in the districts under the erstwhile Medak district. Congress, DYFI slam decision to rename Nehru Yuva Kendra
An alleged decision to change the name of the Nehru Yuva Kendra has come in for sharp criticism from leaders of the Congress and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Kerala. In a statement here recently, Congress leader and Nehru Centre chairman M.M. Hassan said the decision clearly illustrated how much the BJP feared the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister. On coming to power, the Narendra Modi government had changed the name of several institutions that bore the name of Nehru, he alleged. By changing the name of the Nehru Yuva Kendra, the government believed that it could erase the memory of Nehru from the minds of the young people. The Modi government displayed intolerance and a vengeful attitude towards Nehru, he said. The DYFI has demanded that the Union government withdraw from the decision to change the name of the Nehru Yuva Kendra to 'Mera Yuva Bharat' in Hindi and 'My Bharat' in English. The decision, DYFI State secretary V.K. Sanoj told a press conference here, was part of the saffronisation agenda of the BJP government. The DYFI would hold protests outside the district offices of the Nehru Yuva Kendra on Friday, he said. According to the DYFI, the coordinators and nodal officers of the Nehru Yuva Kendra were informed about the change in name and logo but were not provided with reasons for it. The decision was part of attempts to establish a distorted version of history. Sangh Parivar forces had been arbitrarily changing the names of institutions from the day they came to power, the DYFI alleged. Asked about the decision regarding the change in name, Nehru Yuva Kendra officials here said 'they were awaiting instructions.'

Kodikunnil asks Centre to drop move to rename Nehru Yuva Kendra
Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has demanded the immediate revocation of the Union government's decision to rename Nehru Yuva Kendra. 'The move appears to be part of a larger strategy by the BJP-led NDA government to erase institutions and organisations associated with the name of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, for temporary political gains. Nehru was a monumental leader who laid the foundation of India's democracy and played a crucial role in shaping the country's growth in technology, education, and industry. The government's attempt to ignore and undermine his cultural contributions is not only ill-intended but also detrimental,' Mr. Suresh said. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Mavelikara MP said the BJP was afraid of Nehru's legacy and historical significance. 'The Nehru Yuva Kendra has been a key part of youth welfare and social development, influencing generations of young Indians. Changing its name is an effort to undermine the visionary leadership of Nehru, who guided the country's youth and promoted their potential. The Central government must immediately retract the decision,' he added.
