HILLSBOROUGH, Calif. - The Hillsborough Police Department is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of the person who shot an officer last month. The department calls the unknown suspect "dangerous" following the "brazen" Feb. 22 attack. "We are committed to ensuring the safety of our community and holding accountable those who target our officers," said Chief of Police Nelson Corteway. The backstory Around 3:50 p.m. near a Hillsborough police facility on Floribunda Avenue, an officer was shot in an ambush-style attack. The officer fired their own gun, but it still remains unclear if the suspect was struck. Police officials at the time said the department was specifically targeted. Officers from multiple area departments, including SWAT team members and police with rifles, were seen canvassing the area into the evening. A police helicopter was also seen scouring the area from overhead. Previously, the department released a sketch of a possible suspect. According to police, witnesses said the man in the sketch was running southbound off El Camino near Carol, Cypress and Barroihet Avenues in Burlingame around 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and appeared "anxious and was looking back frequently." (KRON) — An eye-catching reward of $100,000 is being offered for information that helps identify and catch a gunman who opened fire on a police officer at the Hillsborough police station. On Wednesday, the Hillsborough Police Department announced that it is offering the reward and the gunman remains at large. HPD is 'urgently seeking the public's assistance in identifying and apprehending a suspect who shot at one of our officers in a brazen attack last month,' the police department wrote. The shooting happened on Feb. 22 at 3:49 p.m. at 1600 Floribunda Avenue. Police Captain Meme Colla told KRON4 that the shooting was 'unsettling, that someone would attack us in our home.' The ambushed officer was injured and returned fire. Police said it's unknown if the gunman was wounded before he ran off. The incident at the police station only lasted a few seconds. Despite a massive manhunt that night, he evaded law enforcement authorities. Police Chief Nelson Corteway said, 'We urge anyone with information — no matter how small it may seem — to come forward and assist us.' Suspect sketch released in Hillsborough police shooting The suspect is believed to be a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s, weighs about 160 pounds, and is between 5'7″ and 5'10' tall.
