Pinpoint Weather: Slightly warmer and drier by mid-week
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Widely scattered showers and storms will continue this evening before activity winds down past sunset. A few storms may be on the strong to severe side as a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 10 P.M. for central and southside Virginia. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat; however, large hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. A Tornado Watch is also in effect to the northeast that includes Nelson county.
Clouds will also clear out a bit into tomorrow morning with overnight low temperatures still warm and humid in the mid 60s. Some patchy fog may be possible overnight as well.
Tomorrow, we will be in between two fronts with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies for the day with temperatures remaining warm in the 80s.
In the late afternoon to evening hours, it is possible that we may see a few isolated showers or storms, but most of the area will stay dry. Ahead of the next cold front that will pass through, scattered showers and a few storms will be possible Monday night into early Tuesday morning.
A Marginal Risk (1/5) for severe weather is outlined over the region in case an isolated storm or two becomes strong to severe. Damaging wind gusts would be the main threat.
As the front passes through, any rain or storms will push east with it into Tuesday as we begin to dry out. High pressure will move in for Wednesday and Thursday with mostly sunny skies and dry weather.
Temperatures will warm up into the mid-to-upper 80s near 90 degrees by Friday. The chance for rain and storms returns Friday afternoon into next weekend.
