BJP implements Karunanidhi's vision of simultaneous elections: Pawan Kalyan
Chennai: In an apparent move to take the sting out of
DMK
's vehement opposition to simultaneous polls, Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister
Pawan Kalyan
on Monday said "our national leadership" was implementing the vision of former chief minister M Karunanidhi, but chief minister
M K Stalin
was opposing it.
"Today, whoever is opposing it should read Karunanidhi's autobiography 'Nenjuku Needhi' in which he insisted Union govt form a committee for simultaneous polls across the country. Our national leadership is implementing the vision of Kalaignar Karunanidhi, and it is strange and bizarre that Stalin is opposing what his father proposed," said Pawan Kalyan. The Janasena Party chief was in city to address a seminar on simultaneous polls organised by TN
BJP
.
At the seminar, Pawan Kalyan said, "Simultaneous polls were not new to India. In the first two decades of Independence, there were simultaneous polls for state assemblies and Parliament. When the cycle was broken, it was Karunanidhi who insisted that there should be simultaneous polls. Today, the sad part is that they (DMK) are opposing it."
Comparing the simultaneous polls with EVMs, Pawan Kalyan said, "False information and fake propaganda are spread about simultaneous polls just like EVMs.
During elections, those who win the elections will praise EVMs, and those who lose will say that EVMs were tampered with. In the issue of simultaneous polls too, if they supported it earlier, it was fine for them, but now if the BJP tries to implement it, they will not accept it.
"
He said, "Simultaneous polls is not an untested theory, rather a system that our country successfully implemented in the formative years. In the most difficult early decades, Bharat demonstrated remarkable unity irrespective of parties and administrative capabilities by holding synchronized elections for over two decades."
