One particularly powerful memory came from local resident George Groves, who was 10-and-a-half when VE Day was declared. In his letter, he described seeing a bomber plane fly past his window and land in a field trap in nearby Buckley. One Year 6 pupil said: "The letter I received from someone who was alive during VE Day was so special. I'm going to treasure it." Carole Bowen, who was nearly five-years-old in May 1945, visited the school to share her memories in person. Carole told the children about living in Rhos, Wrexham, as a child and how her mother went to work making parachutes for British children were fascinated and asked insightful questions throughout the session.
