Researchers looked through thousands of publicly available job ads to produce the ranking. The average pay for a 24-hour job completion for any business side hustle doesn't exceed $100 on Fiverr, the research found. However, some business-adjacent tasks may get close to earning that much: side hustles related to applications and registrations net an average of $97.50 for a day's work, to project management $90 and to interview preparation $85, per the study. Americans consider $1.46 million the minimum for a comfortable retirement, a Northwestern Mutual study found. However, the threshold of savings required to retire well varies considerably across states. No matter where you spend your golden years, it's important to be realistic about how much cash you'll need to fund the future. People should try living on their expected retirement budget for a few years and factor inflation into long-term money goals, financial expert Stacey Black told Entrepreneur last year. Researchers calculated the average length of retirement (nearly 15 years per U.S. life expectancy and retirement age) and multiplied it by each state's cost of living, then increased it by 20% to allow for a more "comfortable" retirement. The study found that West Virginia, Arkansas and South Dakota are the least expensive states in which to retire comfortably in 2025, requiring $712,921, $715,126 and $724,669, respectively. Hawaii ($1,097,790), Massachusetts ($1,059,811) and California ($1,053,814) rounded out the top three most expensive states in which to retire well, per the data. West Virginia is the cheapest state to retire in, study says
CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — How much does it take to comfortably retire in West Virginia? Less than in any other state, according to a recent study. Based on cost-of-living estimates compiled by NetCredit, West Virginia is the cheapest state for retirement, requiring an estimated $712,921 for a single person. For comparison, the national average is $737,998, and states like California, Hawaii and New York require more than $1 million, according to the study. The estimates are based on the average American retirement period of 14 years and 10 months and took into account the cost of living an average life with two vacations per year. Other states with more affordable retirement estimates are Arkansas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Kentucky and Oklahoma, according to NetCredit. Study says West Virginia among worst states to be a mom Even though West Virginia was the cheapest in the U.S., the estimated retirement cost in the Mountain State is still drastically higher than the cost in other countries.
