Your Netflix package just got more expensive in 2025 - this is how much you will pay
South African Netflix users will once again have to dig deeper into their pockets
South African Netflix users will once again have to dig deeper into their pockets, as the global streaming giant has increased the prices of its Mobile, Standard, and Premium plans in the country.
This marks the second time Netflix has adjusted its pricing since entering the South African market in 2016 with Netflix at the time saying the increases were necessary "to reflect improvements to our catalogue of movies and shows".
Netflix began informing users about the new prices in May. The changes are being applied, depending on each subscriber's monthly billing date.
As of 11 June 2025, most South African Netflix subscribers are now paying the new, higher rates, with billing cycles after early June reflecting the updated prices.
The new prices are as follows:
Netflix Mobile will increase from R49 to R59 per month, marking a 20% rise.
Netflix Standard will go from R159 to R179 per month, a 13% increase.
Netflix Premium will increase from R199 to R229 per month, a 15% hike.
The Netflix Basic plan remains unchanged at R99 per month.
The streaming giant did not issue an official statement regarding the price changes. However, its website notes that pricing may be adjusted as the company continues to improve its service and expand its content library.
'Plans and pricing may change as we continue to improve our service and add more TV shows and movies. Adjustments can also happen in response to local market changes, such as changes to local taxes or inflation.'
Earlier this year, IOL reported that MultiChoice also announced its annual price and product adjustments for DStv and its streaming service, Showmax.
