Coronado High School senior inspires students despite challenges
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Milagros Diaz, a senior at Coronado High School, has become a role model for her peers by overcoming challenges and achieving success.
Originally from Venezuela, Diaz said she struggled with English and confidence when she first arrived in the United States. Despite these challenges, she has transformed into a confident leader at her school.
'I learned so much stuff from them,' Diaz said, referring to her educators at Coronado High School. 'I remember middle school because I started in middle school, it was really hard – imagine zero English,' Diaz recalled.
'I was the shyest person that you would have ever met,' Diaz said, reflecting on her earlier years. 'I can talk to a camera to a person,' Diaz stated.
Diaz has been named Student of the Year, a testament to her hard work and dedication.
'I'm a big part of the clubs because in two clubs I am vice president and another one I am president,' Diaz explained.
She writes inspirational lessons of empowerment for groups, sharing her journey and encouraging others. Despite being diagnosed with spina bifida, Diaz continues to persevere and excel in her academic and extracurricular activities.
'Try to do your best — give your 100 percent — even when you can't,' Diaz advised.
Diaz plans to attend Nevada State University, where she intends to major in psychology, furthering her passion for understanding and helping others.
