Opinion: There's One Looming Reason Why Trump Fired Waltz Not Hegseth
Listen to this full episode of The New Abnormal on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon and Stitcher. Laura Loomer has struck again. The New Abnormal's Danielle Moodie and Andy Levy think they've figured out why President Donald Trump chose to fire National Security Adviser Mike Waltz over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth following several Signalgates. According to Levy, all signs point to notorious Trump soothsayer Laura Loomer. Trump fired a top national security aide in early April because Loomer didn't like him, and, 'I am fairly certain that Mike Waltz is one of the people that Laura Loomer doesn't like,' said Levy. 'I guess what I would say is I don't think it's surprising that Waltz is gone,' he added. Sirota, founder and editor-in-chief of The Lever and Academy Award-nominated screenplay writer of Netflix's Don't Look Up, breaks down Trump's chaotic first 100 days. 'The economic contraction can really be blamed almost singularly on Donald Trump,' said Sirota. 'This is not some hangover from the Biden administration's policies. Donald Trump came in and was a shock to the system.' Then, Media Matters for America's senior fellow Matt Gertz examines MAGA's media spinning of Trump's collapsing poll numbers. Opinion: Spare Us the Crocodile Tears, Bill Ackman
Listen to this full episode of The New Abnormal on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon and Stitcher (update links). Billionaire MAGA firebrand Bill Ackman pleaded with President Donald Trump over the weekend to pause the rollout of his devastating tariffs after the stock market cratered last week at levels not seen since March 2020. 'I don't think this was foreseeable,' Ackman wrote in a series of posts on X over the weekend. 'I assumed economic rationality would be paramount. My bad.' The New Abnormal's Danielle Moodie and Andy Levy said Ackman—and the rest of MAGAworld—should have seen this all coming. After all, Trump ran on tariffs. 'Trump did not hide the fact that he was going to impose steep tariffs. He explicitly ran on that,' Levy said. 'So I do not want to hear from anyone, let alone Bill Ackman… this wasn't foreseeable.' Subscribe to The New Abnormal on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, or Overcast. Ackman warned of an 'economic nuclear winter' if Trump does not backtrack and postpone the tariff rollout by 90 days. 'Back on the campaign trail, he (Trump) said that tariffs were his favorite word, even though all of the world's economists said that his economic plan would send us spiraling,' Moodie said. 'And so here we are.' Plus! The Bulwark editor Jonathan V. Last discusses why he believes the American-led world order is over. Then, Semafor finance and business editor Liz Hoffman talks about why Wall Street is suddenly panicking about Trump's economic agenda. Opinion: Marjorie Taylor Greene's Reporter Beau Suggests Bonkers Kyle Rittenhouse Plan to Protect Tesla
Listen to this full episode of The New Abnormal on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon, and Stitcher (update links). Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's boyfriend has a wild idea for dealing with vandals targeting Tesla dealerships. Speaking on a broadcast Thursday, the reporter for Trump-loving Real America's Voice suggested the vehicle manufacturer may need 'Kyle Rittenhouse-style' armed guards at its outlets. 'Maybe it's time to go full-on Kyle Rittenhouse-style security and start having armed security guards in front of a dealership,' Brian Glenn said. 'If I was in charge of a dealership, that's exactly what I would do because they are absolutely destroying a brand.' Rittenhouse became a MAGA megastar after he was found 'not guilty' in 2021 of killing two demonstrators and injuring another at protests over police violence in Wisconsin. The New Abnormal co-host Danielle Moodie thinks Glenn should just 'shut the f— up'—and that billionaire Tesla owner Elon Musk can afford his own security. 'He's worth $400 billion—go protect your own s—,' Moodie said. TNA co-host Andy Levy chimed in, slamming those who branded all the protesters as terrorists. 'The same people who think that the January 6 traitors were taking a little vacation basically want to call all the people protesting Tesla 'terrorists,'' Levy said. Moodie and Levy also checked in on Gov. Tim Walz's post-election listening tour, where the former vice presidential candidate has garnered praise for his frank assessment of his and former Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign failures. 'I wish that he had just been allowed to be who the f— he was,' Moodie said. Plus! TNA spoke with Donald Moynihan, a professor of public policy at the University of Michigan, about the Trump administration's anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion crusade, which led Arlington National Cemetery to scrape its website of notable minority figures earlier this week. Opinion: Rev. Mariann Budde Rattles Trump With Plea for ‘Mercy'
Listen to this full episode of The New Abnormal on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon and Stitcher (update links). Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde rattled President Donald Trump during his big inauguration week by making a plea for 'mercy' as his administration began mass deportations and rolled back legislative protections in a flurry of executive orders. 'Mr. President, millions have put their trust in you, and as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God in the name of our God. I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country. We're scared,' said Budde, during the inaugural prayer at Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday. Budde told Trump, 'There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families, some who fear for their lives and the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings who labor and poultry farms and meat packing plants who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals.' She added, 'They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors.' Subscribe to The New Abnormal on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, or Overcast. The New Abnormal co-host Danielle Moodie called the address to the president Trump an 'absolute profile in courage.' She added, 'I know that MAGA loves to feed off people's fear and that's what gets them excited, but it is people like her that are modeling how you stand up to these people.' 'If you watch that clip, it tells you everything you need to know about them just from their facial reactions,' said producer Seamus Calder. 'JD Vance looks offended that this is happening and very, very angry. Donald Trump looks clueless and bored. My favorite is Tiffany Trump, who just has the, 'Oh, my God. Is she really doing this face? How dare she.'' Co-host Andy Levy added, 'All you need to know is she gave a speech, a sermon, rather asking the president to be compassionate, asking him to show mercy to people, and they are very mad about that. They're very mad at the ideas of compassion and mercy.' Plus! Political scientist Jules Boykoff, author of What Are the Olympics For?, explores the intersection between sports and politics.
