Thunderstorm effect in Chandigarh: Trains delayed, flights diverted

Chandigarh: Hundreds of fliers and rail passengers were left stranded and frustrated in the aftermath of rain and thunderstorm that hit Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, and the Tricity area on Thursday night. Major delays in train and flight operations were reported. Rail traffic on the Delhi-Ambala section was particularly hit after trees fell on the tracks, resulting in cascading delays for several key trains heading to Chandigarh. Among the worst affected were the Vande Bharat Express trains from New Delhi and Ajmer. Train number 22447, the New Delhi-Chandigarh Vande Bharat Express, reached Chandigarh at 9:42 am — 1 hour and 4 minutes behind schedule. Similarly, 20977 Ajmer-Chandigarh Vande Bharat Express arrived at 3:49 pm instead of the scheduled 2:45 pm, also delayed by 1 hour and 4 minutes. 12011 Kalka Shatabdi Express reached Chandigarh at 11:05 am, 53 minutes later than its expected time of 10:12 am. 22451 Bandra Terminus-Chandigarh-Amritsar Express suffered the most significant delay, arriving at 6:34 pm — more than 4 hours late from its scheduled arrival at 2:15 pm. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Click Here - This Might Save You From Losing Money Expertinspector Click Here Undo Air travel was no exception to the chaos. The adverse weather conditions affected operations at Delhi airport, resulting in the cancellation of multiple flights and delays across several routes. Air India flight AI-2626 from Bengaluru and two Indigo flights from Dharamshala (6E-7722 and 6E-7517) were cancelled due to the inclement weather. Morning flights from Delhi were also delayed, including Air India's AI-617, which departed at 6:52 am instead of 5:50 am. Another Delhi-Chandigarh flight, AI-2706, arrived late. An Indigo flight from Srinagar (6E-6015) arrived at 1:42 pm, 1 hour and 12 minutes behind schedule, while Air India's AI-2532 from Delhi landed at 1:20 pm, delayed by 45 minutes. The disruptions highlighted the vulnerability of regional transportation infrastructure during sudden weather changes. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and clear obstructions along railway tracks to restore normalcy.
