Controlled explosives test will be conducted at Kirtland Air Force Base
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A controlled explosives test will be conducted at Kirtland Air Force Base this week, according to Sandia National Laboratories. The test will be completed on Thursday between 1 and 3 p.m. on the south end of the base. Mark Warren, ABQ RIDE Operations Manager, says the ART buses travel in the inside lanes and one of the biggest issues they are seeing is vehicles making left turns into the ART lanes. With the roads getting busier during the summer months ABQ RIDE wants to remind drivers to pay attention to street signs, signals and be aware of ART buses when driving through the ART corridor. A new law promises major reforms and millions in investment toward behavioral health in New Mexico. But what will actually change, and when? The National Guard Is Deploying In Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The National Guard is deploying in Albuquerque, aiming to help tackle the city's crime problem by freeing up more police officers. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham declared an emergency through an Executive Order in April, after receiving a letter from Albuquerque's Police Chief, who requested additional resources to combat what he described as a crime problem that 'continues to be an emergency' in the city. APD says integrating Guardsmen and women will allow officers to be more present in high-crime areas, particularly along Central Avenue. But how will this work? What will the National Guard be doing or not doing? Maj. Gen. Miguel Aguilar, the Adjutant General overseeing New Mexico's National Guard, joins Chris and Gabby to explain everything you need to know. 'We're not a threat to anyone's civil liberties. We're New Mexicans,' explained Maj. Gen. Aguilar. 'I even checked how many people are like traditional New Mexicans on this mission – the vast majority. And we've always been the type of people who want to help a problem, and this is the opportunity we've been afforded,' he added. Will Albuquerque's ‘Rail Trail' Be A Thing?
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For years, New Mexicans have heard promises of 'revitalization' and 'redevelopment' in downtown Albuquerque—but is it actually happening? This week on the New Mexico News Insiders Podcast, Chris and Gabby sit down with Terry Brunner, Director of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency, to pull back the curtain on how government is working with the private sector to incentivize development. Brunner details housing plans, local business buy-in for increased security, and some long-game, multimillion-dollar projects like the 'Rail Trail.' What is it exactly? And when could people see the Rail Trail in real life? Right now, it's hard to walk from Old Town to the Bosque trail; it's not an easy path,' Brunner explains. 'So it's just logical. You want to build a nicer connector that takes you from Old Town to the Bio Park to the Bosque Trail. Like, that's common sense.' Two 'simple' goals for downtown include adding more shade and improving parking. Brunner also shares what he's learned from visiting other major cities, and draws on the overall mission to attract more people to downtown. 'Getting bodies downtown is really the key to everything,' Brunner explained. 'That changes the dynamic so much. But when you're the only person Thursday at 3 p.m., it feels lonely and weird and not that great.'
