Alamo Fire damages buildings in Grants; fully contained

GRANTS, N.M. (KRQE) – A wildfire burned six structures and eight outbuildings in Grants, according to the New Mexico State Forestry Division. The Alamo Fire sparked Sunday night in a neighborhood on the east side of Grants and is now fully contained. Winds pushed the fire into a residential area with structures, burning several, along with outbuildings. Fire in bosque area near Socorro grows to 364 acres Officials will be managing structural impacts and monitoring for hot spots. GPS will also be performed on the fire to get an accurate acreage total. Due to the ongoing fire investigation and emergency personnel still on scene, no vehicles will be allowed. Residents on the south side of East Sage Ave. are not permitted back to their homes at this time. Fire personnel are still on the scene while the fire investigation is ongoing. Gail fire now 10% contained in Otero County

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Gail fire burning in Otero County is now 10 percent contained, and communities were placed back to 'set' status from 'go,' meaning evacuations have been lifted on Thursday, March 20, the New Mexico State Forestry Division said. Gail fire grows over 200 acres in Otero County The Forestry Division said the fire, which is 238 acres, was discovered shortly after 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, and is located two miles west of Mayhill, New Mexico. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the Forestry Division said. 'Today, crews will work on securing interior hot spots in anticipation of raising containment by the end of today's operational shift,' read the news release by the Forestry Division. The Forestry Division, Smokey Bear, Silver City, Sacramento Hotshots, Lincoln National Forest, and volunteer fire departments are working to contain the fire with 92 personnel present, according to the news release.
