New Mexico offering Route 66 Centennial celebration grants

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – For the second year the New Mexico Tourism Department is offering communities an opportunity to invest in special events and improvements for the upcoming 100th anniversary of Route 66. The Route 66 Centennial Grant Program started in 2024 and resulted in $1.5 million on grants awarded to nine communities. Balloon Fiesta showcased in new Hallmark movie The department is offering grants to support events, experiences, infrastructure, destination enhancements and marketing campaigns that related to Route 66 and New Mexico's role in its history. Nonprofits, cities, counties, tribal governments and special districts are eligible to apply for a grant. Applicants for the special events option of the grant must show how their projects promote the centennial, supports visitation, is tied to the history or is along the route. Infrastructure or enhancement grants must have a connection to Route 66 and be located withing a community along the route. Youth groups eligible for $150 stipend in Las Cruces city cleanup

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Youth groups in Las Cruces are eligible for a limited number of $150 stipends to participate in a 'Keep Las Cruces Beautiful' cleanup through May 1, the City of Las Cruces said in a press release. The City says the 'Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Service Opportunity' provides a $150 stipend to eligible youth groups who take part in a cleanup. 'Funds come from the New Mexico Tourism Department's Clean and Beautiful program and are eligible for youth groups that meet the requirements. The Clean and Beautiful program has allocated a limited number of $150 stipends for eligible youth groups,' the City said. The City says in order to be eligible for funding, a vendor packet must be completed and submitted. All members of the group must be 24-years-old or younger and should commit to completing the cleanup. The program will provide gloves, bags, and grabbers. After the cleanup, groups must return the grabbers and any unused items along with a cleanup report, to the program's office where the invoice will be signed, the City said. 'Youth groups can clean various locations such as streets surrounding a specific neighborhood, nearby parks, trails or any area in need of beautification. KLCB can provide recommendations on areas that need attention,' the City said. To register for the stipends, click here: 'This opportunity operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The KLCB coordinator will contact applicants once their registration is submitted. After notification, the group coordinator will have one week to submit the vendor packet which is required to receive the stipend. This Monday, the NMTD will make the case to the legislature to bring New Mexico True to an international audience. Albuquerque mayor responds to DOJ threat to cut funding for sanctuary cities The department's acting secretary said Munich and London are two markets they intend to target as part of the 2025 spring and summer campaign in partnership with Brand USA. It will be centered around the Route 66 Centennial. NMTD is requesting a $16 million special appropriation to improve both national and international marketing.
