New Palestine football alum Maxen Hook signs with Super Bowl champs after 2025 NFL Draft
Maxen Hook, a former New Palestine High School star who became an All-Mid-American Conference safety at Toledo, signed with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles after as an undrafted free agent. Hook started for the Rockets for four years, reaching a bowl game in each. He compiled 356 tackles, and had 15 passes defended and 7 interceptions. In 2024, he had 107 tackles. Scouts like Hook's relentlessness and discipline, and he is viewed as an immediate special-teams contributor with the possibility of developing into an NFL safety. Hook's former Toledo teammate, cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, had a standout rookie season for the Eagles, getting in on 46 tackles with 12 passes defended. He was second in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. Maxen Hook draft profile Height: 6-0 Weight: 202 pounds Draft value: Third-day pick 40-yard dash: 4.55 seconds Arm length: 31 1/2 inches Hand size: 9 1/8 inches Maxen Hook scouting report Lance Zierlein, "Four-year starter with the size, speed and production to catch the attention of NFL evaluators in the middle rounds. Hook patrols the field with a tangible urgency to fly around and make plays. He's rangy over the top in coverage and plays with tremendous hustle to rack up tackles. His urgency also comes with missed run fits and occasional coverage mistakes when teams use misdirection against him. He has average pop as a tackler but has cut down on his misses. He plays the game with passion and will be an instant contributor on special teams. Hook could develop into a solid backup with the flexibility to play interchangeably at safety." NFL Draft Buzz: "After diving deep into Hook's tape, what stands out is a safety who plays with outstanding discipline and awareness, even if he lacks the athletic traits to be a difference-maker at the next level. His processing speed and tackling technique pop off the screen." Kyle Crabbs, 33rd Team: "Hook showcases sufficient lateral redirection ability, thanks to how he stays under control in pursuit. But his hips do show some added tightness when he's forced to pedal or speed turn in space to flip open and expand his coverage range on the back end. This is a potential limitation for deep post responsibilities against teams that have quarterbacks who can drive the ball outside the numbers downfield." Strengths Relentless pursuit from sideline to sideline Excellent open-field tackler Has tools to play near line of scrimmage Weaknesses Impatience can lead to him getting out of position He's not a top one-on-one or deep ball defender Sometimes has issues shedding blockers Maxen Hook highlights
