Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jed Christoph joins News 2 Today
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jed Christoph is trading in the weekend weather to deliver the Lowcountry's morning forecast. Christoph has been anchoring the weekend weather at News 2 since joining the team in June 2023. During that time Christoph has kept the Lowcountry safe during multiple severe weather events such as dangerous tornadoes, flooding, tropical systems that threatened the coast, and even a rare winter storm. He now joins longtime morning anchor Octavia Mitchell as they deliver the day's top headlines and weather outlook on News 2 Today. 'I'm looking forward to many wonderful mornings ahead as we begin a new chapter on News 2 Today,' said Mitchell. 'Jed is a focused and experienced meteorologist with a wealth of weather knowledge to help keep our viewers informed and safe.' A native of the Lowcountry, Christoph grew up watching News 2 and learning, even at an early age, from Storm Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler. He understands the region's landscape, the dangers severe weather can bring to the area, and what it means to get the forecast right every time. 'I knew from the first time I saw Jed's work that we had to have him on our team,' said Fowler. 'He brings so much to the table. He grew up here, knows his meteorology, and is an amazing photographer and videographer. He also is an avid surfer. Jed is the perfect person to get you out the door in the morning with what you need to know when it comes to weather.' Christoph's passion for weather and beautiful photography often come together during his weekly series, Jed's Journals, which highlights the Lowcountry's beauty while offering a new view to areas people around the community can explore themselves. You'll also see his timelapse video and stunning images during his daily forecasts. 'I am so thrilled to join the morning team and bring some fresh energy to the start of everyone's day… in the city I grew up in! It's an honor to step into this role. Filling Josh Marthers' shoes is no small task… He set the bar high, creating an incredible legacy here. My approach is to deliver the reliable weather forecasts that the Lowcountry expects from Storm Team 2, with a twist… Surf reports and forecasts when the waves are rolling, tailored forecasts for the outdoor lovers, and some of my best photography to highlight what really makes this place special. I want everyone to feel informed, inspired, and ready to tackle the day ahead!' Wake up with Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jed Christoph and the News 2 Today team every morning from 4:30 a.m. until 7 a.m. on WCBD and at 7 a.m. on The Lowcountry CW. Hanna Powers leaving the Lowcountry for the Mile High City
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – She has always been a professional at breaking news, but the news of Hanna Powers' departure from News 2 is breaking the hearts of many. Hanna has been a part of the News 2 family for more than five years, first joining the team as a nightside reporter – then she began a new course, trading night for mornings, and moved to News 2 Today as our traffic anchor and midday anchor. Her impeccable work ethic, engaging personality, warm smile, sense of style and humor, her love for vegan food are all admirable qualities, but it is her passion for news and dedication to getting accurate and timely information out to News 2 viewers is what shines brightest. Hanna has a nose for news, an unbridled passion for fashion, a heart for horses, and a love for all animals. In her time at News 2, she has led the cavalry when it comes to saving animals through our successful Clear the Shelters campaign, with Hanna at the helm, with her name, she was empowered and used her powers to bring change. She worked to open hearts and homes for pets across the Lowcountry. She became the stylish News 2 face at Charleston Place as the Lowcountry turns wild for the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition each year. Hanna is an accomplished equestrian, a junior Olympian, and despite her hectic work schedule, she prioritizes time to keeping up the pace with her horse, Lace, or perhaps a shopping spree with her best bud Ernie, once a shelter dog, now king of her castle. Focused, meticulous, with a compassionate heart, never one to put the horse before the cart. Now she is back on the saddle, heading to the Mile High City – Denver, Colorado. Hanna created memorable moments for our viewers and helped them start their day with a smile, and we will always be thankful. Now, she is grabbing the reins to begin again, leaving a forever mark at News 2 and the Lowcountry in her tracks. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
