Kevin O'Leary Orders Abby Phillip To Shed Her 'Trump Derangement Syndrome'
'Shark Tank' star Kevin O'Leary is having a moment as a conservative antagonist on CNN's 'NewsNight With Abby Phillip.' (Watch the video below.) O'Leary on Tuesday took issue with panelists upset over President Donald Trump's desire to accept a $400 million jet as a gift from Qatar that he would use as Air Force One. The deal has been deemed an ethical concern thatappears to violate the U.S. Constitution's clause about receiving gifts from foreign governments. 'What does this have to do with Middle East policy?' O'Leary, who goes by the nickname Mr. Wonderful, blurted out. 'What does this have to do with the fact that he is trying to create a circle of friendship with the fastest growing geographies in the world before China does?' 'Who cares about the plane?' he asked later. 'Why focus on something that is irrelevant?' 'Kevin, the United States Constitution would like to have a word,' Phillip said, repeating herself for good measure. 'That's why people care, because the reason that that's in the Constitution is to prevent the president of the United States from accepting things that are being perceived as bribes.' 'What is the goal of the trip?' he asked, referring to Trump's current visit to the Middle East. 'The goal of the trip is not to get a giant gift that he can say belongs to him as president but then he takes with him when he leaves the office,' Phillip answered. (The jumbo jet would later be transferred to the Trump presidential library, according to the administration's plan.) 'Abby you have to distance yourself from Trump Derangement Syndrome,' O'Leary snapped. 'It's irrelevant to policy. It doesn't matter.' 'Have you heard of the emoluments clause?' Phillip shot back amid cross talk. 'Do you understand that that is in the Constitution?' O'Leary likened the argument to debating how many fairies dance on the head of a pin. 'I focus on policy,' he said after pushback from Karen Finney. 'It's policy, policy, policy.' CNN commentator blasts 'Les Mis' cast who will sit out Trump show: 'Shut up and sing'
CNN commentator blasts 'Les Mis' cast who will sit out Trump show: 'Shut up and sing' Show Caption Hide Caption Conan O'Brien, Will Ferrell take aim at President Trump Comedians, like Conan O'Brien and Will Ferrell, took aim at President Donald Trump as they gathered to honor Conan O'Brien at the Kennedy Center. A CNN commentator is blasting performers at the Kennedy Center after the outlet exclusively reported that several 'Les Misérables' cast members planned to boycott an upcoming show President Donald Trump is slated to attend. "It's your job to perform, shut up and sing," Joe Borelli, the Former Republican leader of the New York City Council, said during a May 8 broadcast of "NewsNight With Abby Phillip." "This is what you're paid to do, stop being so self-absorbed," Borelli continued, taking aim at the 10 to 12 cast members who will reportedly sit out a performance of the musical based on one of the bloody uprisings ahead of the French Revolution. They feel like they're doing something as heroic and revolutionary as the rebels portrayed in the play, Borelli argued, while in reality they're just being: "self-absorbed, jerk actors," he claimed. CNN first broke the news May 7 that performers had been given the option to bow out of a June 11 show, which Trump, who has recently taken over the Kennedy Center, will attend. The cadre who raised their hands to opt out includes both principal cast and ensemble members, the outlet reports. The subtle but notable act of resistance comes just months after Trump cleaned house at the Kennedy Center, installing himself as chairman and close ally Richard Grenell as interim president. Amid Kennedy Center shakeup, a musician shares tense exchange with interim president The reason for the changes, Trump wrote in a Truth Social post, was the center's decision to host drag show performances. "Just last year, the Kennedy Center featured Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth — THIS WILL STOP," he wrote. "The Kennedy Center is an American Jewel, and must reflect the brightest STARS on its stage from all across our Nation." In response to all the upheaval, multiple stars and artists cut ties with the center, with several high-profile board members stepping down and others canceling future performances. An interview with Issa Rae and several performances of the Broadway hit "Hamilton" were among the events canceled. 'I never liked 'Hamilton' very much,' President Trump says in visit to Kennedy Center The Kennedy Center, which opened in 1971 in honor of the late 35th president of the United States, serves as the nation's arts and cultural center, offering concerts, plays and other live acts. Trump declined to attend the annual Kennedy Center Honors performances during his first term. Contributing: Savannah Kuchar, Swapna Venugopal Ramaswamy, Joey Garrison, USA TODAY

CNN's Scott Jennings mulling major career move —but is awaiting Trump's approval
WASHINGTON — Conservative CNN pundit Scott Jennings is mulling a run to replace retiring Kentucky GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell — but is waiting to see if President Trump will give him the green light. 'If the president wants me, I'll run,' the veteran political strategist spilled at an afterparty following Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner, according to the Daily Beast. 'If he wants somebody else, I'll support that candidate,' added Jennings, a onetime adviser to McConnell, who will retire next year after being the longest-serving Senate leader of either party in the upper chamber's history. A well-connected GOP operative told The Post that Jennings' interest in running for Senate was 'certainly not fake.' Jennings, 47, who did not immediately respond to The Post's request for comment, has emerged as a popular commentator for his frequent appearances on CNN's 'News Night With Abby Phillip' over the past year. His clashes with liberal pundits on the show and defenses of Trump administration policies have earned him gushing praise from Republicans and Democrats alike. Last month, Jennings received a big pay raise and a new contract at CNN, even though the network declined to let him headline his own show. 'He defends me all the time on CNN, and he defends me really well, but he can't go too far because he'll get fired,' Trump said of Jennings at a campaign-style rally in Warren, Mich., Tuesday night to mark the president's 100th day in office. In a show of support, Trump invited Jennings on stage — joking that it would be 'the end' of his TV appearances on CNN. 'Michigan, we were flying in here today, and I said, 'Look at these farms. I've got to get a farm in Michigan — because when you own as many libs as I do, you gotta get a place to put them all,'' Jennings riffed after taking the mic from the commander in chief. 'I think he relishes a role in challenging the overwhelmingly liberal audience,' ex-Obama adviser and CNN commentator Van Jones told the Daily Caller of Jennings in January. 'But he also understands television. The heel has to be more of a likable rascal than someone who's just perceived as utterly evil. He knows how to dance that dance. It's a rare gift.' 'Could I nominate [Scott Jennings] for the United States Senate from the Commonwealth of Kentucky? He'd be a hell of a McConnell replacement,' conservative radio host Erick Erickson tweeted in February. The National Republican Senatorial Committee declined to comment about Jennings launching a bid for the Kentucky seat. Former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced his candidacy within minutes of McConnell announcing his retirement in February — and Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) joined the fray last week. Lexington-based businessman Nate Morris, another potential candidate, has ripped Cameron and Barr in social media posts as 'puppets' for the former Senate majority leader. 'I'm not gonna let Mitch McConnell dictate whether I run or not,' Morris said in a February post on X. 'Mitch McConnell, unfortunately, has sold Kentucky conservatives out for years now. He's turned his back on us — and he's turned his back on President Trump.' Trump has yet to make any formal endorsement.

CNN's MAGA Panelist Rages at Larry David's Op-Ed Mocking Bill Maher
Scott Jennings ripped into Larry David's scathing New York Times op-ed on Bill Maher's White House dinner, saying on CNN it might scare the American left into refusing to speak with President Donald Trump. 'Silence yourselves or we'll do it for you. That's the purpose of this op-ed, so that the next comedian or the next person on the American left chooses not to speak to Donald Trump,' Jennings said on CNN's NewsNight With Abby Phillip. 'This is all an effort to get people not to do what you just said, which is to talk to each other, or our political leaders.' Headlined 'My Dinner With Adolf,' David's Monday op-ed was a thinly veiled attack on fellow comedian Maher. The fictional piece detailed being invited to dinner with Adolf Hitler in 1939 and paralleled the way Maher has spoken about his recent dinner with Trump beat for beat. On Monday night, Jennings defended Maher's dinner with the president, saying that 'even though I disagree with most everything [Maher] believes politically, he was right to do this and he was right to speak out about it.' David's likening of Trump to Hitler raised some hackles among CNN's guests on Monday, with Mediaite founder Dan Abrams excoriating Curb Your Enthusiasm creator for bringing the Nazi leader into his argument. 'When you start bringing in Hitler... you've lost the argument,' Abrams said. 'Anytime anyone invokes Hitler, and makes the comparison, you're going to lose. You're going to lose because no one, everyone apart from the echo chamber, is going to stop listening to you.' David's op-ed described the imagined meeting with Hitler, who was 'quite disarming' and was proud to crack a joke about his tan suit. 'I realized I'd never seen him laugh before,' the comedian wrote. 'Suddenly he seemed so human.' Maher first revealed he would be having dinner with Trump at the White House last month, explaining that the meeting had been arranged by their mutual friend Kid Rock. He later shared a monologue on his show, Real Time with Bill Maher, in which he described the dinner and boasted about making Trump laugh, telling viewers, 'I had never seen him laugh in public. But he does. At himself. And it's not fake.'
