It happened around 8:50 a.m. Saturday, May 17, in Morgan County, Georgia, and that 911 call set off a multi-county pursuit, according to the Covington Police Department in Georgia. The woman had been abducted earlier that day from her home in South Carolina, officials said. 'The individual was able to contact 911 and give a description of the vehicle and the female victim. Officers began patrolling Interstate 20 (and) observed the vehicle traveling west on Interstate 20.' A traffic stop was initiated, but the vehicle stopped only briefly, revealing 'the victim still inside,' police said. 'Officers began a vehicle pursuit on Interstate 20 westbound. The vehicle subsequently stopped in Rockdale County after a successful PIT maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) by the Newton County Sheriff's Office,' Covington police said. 'The suspect, Charles Davis, attempted to flee on foot but was tased and quickly apprehended. The victim was unharmed and was safely recovered.' Investigators say the ordeal began when Davis forced his way into the victim's home and took her against her will. A motive has not been released, and investigators have not said where Davis was headed when the vehicle was stopped. Jail records show he lives in Batesburg, South Carolina, about a 35-mile drive southwest from Columbia. The location of the victim's home was not released. ‘Armed and dangerous' 16-year-old wanted in stepdad's killing, GA sheriff says
A man was found shot to death inside his Atlanta-area home and his teenage stepson is accused of pulling the trigger, according to a Georgia sheriff. Arrest warrants were issued for 16-year-old Jayden Daniel after David Gay, 41, was found dead May 13 at the family's home in Covington, the Newton County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Daniel was still at large as of May 15 and should be considered 'armed and dangerous,' according to deputies. He's wanted on multiple charges, including murder, aggravated assault and theft by taking. Authorities were called to the home at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a shooting and discovered Gay's body, deputies said. Investigators suspect Daniel fatally shot Gay, but haven't said what led to the shooting. Daniel's mom, Kennethia Gay, has pleaded for her son to surrender, according to WAGA. Kennethia Gay told the station she lost her other son to gun violence last year. 'Please turn yourself in,' she told WAGA. 'This is the ultimate breaking point for me. I said I couldn't lose another child. I lost my husband, and now I really can't lose another child.' Kennethia Gay remembered her husband as a devoted dad who loved her kids 'like you guys were his own,' the station reported. Authorities didn't release additional information. Deputies have asked anyone with information on Daniel's whereabouts to call 911 or Newton County investigators at 678-625-1543. Covington is about a 30-mile drive southeast from downtown Atlanta.
