Shooting at motorcycle club in Newton kills one, critically injures another: Police
NEWTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One person is dead and another is critically injured after a shooting at a motorcycle club, according to the Newton Police Department. Just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, officers responded to a shooting at the Outlaw Motorcycle Club House at 1605 North Main Avenue. When they arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds who were both taken to a local hospital for treatment. Gang activity suspected in Catawba County mass shooting as four suspects face judge Sadly, one victim was pronounced dead of their injuries. The other victim was taken by helicopter to a medical center in Charlotte, where they are in critical condition, officials said. The public is asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues. No arrests have been made yet; however, 'the scene is secure and there is no immediate threat,' police said. Four teenage boys arrested for allegedly driving stolen car, and carrying a gun
All four teenagers are being charged as delinquents. Officers were told to be on the lookout for a stolen motor vehicle at about 5:31 a.m. The vehicle was reported stolen from 398 Cambridge St. in Brighton at around 7:12 p.m. on Friday. Early the next day, it was then seen by Newton Police fleeing a breaking and entering at 376 Watertown St. in Newton. Advertisement Wentworth Institute of Technology police also said the vehicle was seen on camera driving on Ruggles Street in Boston around 5 a.m. Boston police responded to the area of 60 Southern Ave. following a report of a person in possession of a gun at about 5:24 a.m. 'Officers advised that four individuals attempted to rob a victim and displayed a firearm,' Boston police said. 'The suspects fled the scene, and officers were able to broadcast a description of the fleeing vehicle.' An officer saw the vehicle on Warren Street going towards Dudley Street. The officer requested assistance in stopping the vehicle. Other officers arrived and attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Dudley and Dearborn Streets, but the vehicle drove around multiple marked police cruisers and sped off. Advertisement The vehicle drove through a red light at the intersection of Malcolm X Boulevard and Columbus Avenue before officers lost sight of the vehicle, and began to search the area of Tremont Street and Saint Alphonsus Street. 'A supervisor was able to review cameras and could see that the vehicle never left the area,' police said. The vehicle was found in a public open garage underneath 75 Saint Alphonsus St. at about 6 a.m. It was parked crooked and partially protruding out of the marked lanes. Multiple vape products were found inside the vehicle. The Newton Police Department took custody of the vehicle, and it was towed to their Police Station. The four boys were then seen walking in the area of 1600 Tremont St. and police chased them until they were apprehended at the intersection of Huntington Avenue and Tremont Street. Officers searched the boys and recovered multiple stolen vape products. A spent shell casing was recovered from one of the 15-year-old boys, and the stolen car keys were found in possession of the 16-year-old. A gun was recovered from the 14-year-old, which was determined to be a Palmetto Armory with one round in the chamber and eight rounds in a large capacity magazine. The firearm also had a laser sight affixed to it. The 14-year-old gave the officers a false name during the booking process, but they were able to determine his real name and discovered he had an active warrant from juvenile court for firearm related offenses. Newton man gets life for child sex crimes
NEWTON, Kan. (KSNW) — A Newton man has received a life prison sentence for child sex crimes. Hunter Miller was convicted on April 11, 2024 of rape of a child under the age of 14 and aggravated criminal sodomy. The crimes occurred in December 2021 while the victim was under the age of 10. Sheriff's office says wanted felon caused multiple crashes After his conviction, Miller sought a new trial, which was denied. He will not be eligible for parole for at least 25 years and will be on lifetime parole with electronic monitoring and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Motorcyclist dead, two Catawba County women injured in Newton crash
NEWTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Catawba County man has died and a woman has serious injuries after a motorcycle crash on N.C. Hwy. 16 Tuesday morning. According to the Newton Police Department, officers responded to a crash at 11:55 a.m. to the intersection of N.C. 16 and East 20th Street. The investigation revealed 20-year-old Brent Lee Edmonson, of Newton, was riding a 2024 Kawasaki when he entered the intersection traveling north on 16 and collided with a 2001 Honda CRV traveling west on South McLin Creek Road. SLED charges Catawba County man with stabbing Mount Pleasant officer during altercation The driver of the Honda, a 63-year-old from Claremont, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle's passenger, a 60-year-old woman from Conover, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The motorcycle driver, Edmonson, was ejected and was found deceased by officers and other first responders at the scene. 1 dead, 2 injured after motorcycle crash in Newton, police say
Newton police responded to a motorcycle crash on Highway 16 that killed one person and sent two to the hospital on Tuesday morning. Police, EMS and firefighters responded to the scene at the intersection of Highway 16 and E 20th Street, around 11:55 a.m., officials said. Investigators said a motorcycle collided with a Honda CR-V in an intersection while the motorcycle was travelling North and the Honda travelled West. READ: Man accused of killing wife changes story, claims she killed herself The motorcycle driver, 20-year-old Brent Lee Edmonson, was already deceased when responders arrived, according to the Newton Police Department. The two women occupying the Honda were sent to the hospital, police said. The driver, 63-year-old Anna Killian Huffman, was transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The passenger, 60-year-old Lisa Killian Robertson, was transported to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
